Description

The Parthenocissus quinquefolia 'Star Shower' is a climbing Virginia creeper, hardy and easy to grow, sought after for its ever-changing foliage. Variegated with white and green, the young spring shoots are pinkish and turn reddish-pink in autumn. The leaves are deciduous, 8 to 20cm (3 to 8in) long, with five toothed, ovate leaflets. Its insignificant flower heads give way to blue-black berries in winter, which birds love.

Originally from Oregon, the variegated Virginia creeper is hardy down to -15 °C (5°F) and can tolerate all exposures. It grows in well-drained, humus-bearing, relatively rich soil. The autumn colours are more beautiful when the foliage receives at least 5 to 6 hours of sunlight daily. Pruning without constraints at any time of the year keeps the plant in its space.

With its height of 10m (33ft), the Parthenocissus quinquefolia 'Star Shower' can cover a wall, a pergola, or large trees.

Equipped with tendrils, it needs to be trained to climb on its support.
