Description
The Passiflora caerulea 'Purple Haze' is a climbing plant with tendrils, valued for its blue and white flowers. Nicknamed Passion Flower, it evokes the nails, hammer, and crown of thorns from the Passion of Christ.
The Passiflora caerulea Purple Haze has alternate, evergreen leaves that are 6 to 10cm (2 to 4in) long, divided, and green. This liana produces flowers with a diameter of 10cm (4in). The petals are white, the filamentous crown is purple at the base, white in the middle, and blue at the top. The stamen is green. Each flower is ephemeral but quickly renews itself. The fruits are orange when ripe and have a tart flavour.
This Passion Flower is hardy down to -10 °C (14°F) and grows in rich, moist, well-drained soil in a sunny location. Pruning at the end of flowering consists of reducing the branches to maintain a beautiful habit.
With a height of 5m (16ft), the Passiflora caerulea Purple Haze is used to adorn walls, fences, trellises, and porches. It can be brought indoors in colder regions under a greenhouse or conservatory where it will spend the cold winters.

Planting and care
The Passiflora caerulea 'Purple Haze' is a sun-loving plant sheltered from cold and drying winds. Plant it in the spring in ordinary and well-drained soil. Place it on a support to support the weight of vegetation. Indeed, it directs its branches well onto the support as the vegetation is exuberant. Pruning before winter is recommended to maintain a reasonable size. Do not hesitate to cut back the main branches to facilitate growth. Remove dead or misplaced branches and aerate the plant by pruning excess branches. Be careful of scale insects, whiteflies, and the cucumber mosaic virus. Treat as a preventive measure.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
