It blooms from a young age, in May-June, with exceptional generosity, on a very beautiful foliage. This climber measures 3 to 10 m at maturity depending on how it is managed, pruned and cultivated. Description

Wisteria Grande Diva® Maria is the most fragrant of this wonderful series of hybrid wisterias from W. brachybotrys (formerly W. venusta) named 'Diva'. This Maria selection is distinguished by a deliciously pastel, white and lavender flowering, which exhales a sweet, vanilla and sugary fragrance. Diva wisterias have a rapid flowering, which occurs from the first years of cultivation, they bloom abundantly, harmoniously and uniformly throughout their vegetation and do not damage their support. Much less vigorous than its Chinese and Japanese cousins, the 'Diva' wisteria can easily be maintained by pruning to a reduced size, which allows it to be adopted in a small garden, or even in a large pot on the terrace.

Wisteria Grande Diva® Maria is derived from, among others, a Japanese species of modest stature called the Silky or Graceful Wisteria. It is part of an exceptional new range created in the heart of Anjou in France by Formidable Plant Breeders. It is a small deciduous climber, whose foliage appears in spring and falls in autumn. As an adult, it will measure between 3 m and 10 m in height depending on how it is pruned and whether it is grown in the ground or in a container. Its voluble stems bear leaves divided into 12 ovate leaflets, measuring 4 to 7 cm long. Its stems twine from left to right (dextrorse) on solid supports. The abundant flowering takes place in May-June, at the same time as the young foliage unfolds, tinged with bronze. It takes the form of pendulous clusters, 15-20 cm long, very fragrant, composed of bicoloured papilionaceous flowers, very bright, composed of pale blue-purple petals and white petals. Hardy to at least -20°C, the Diva Maria wisteria is easy to grow in any loose and deep soil, moist to occasionally dry.

The 'Diva Maria' wisteria is perfect for dressing up a wall, railing, pergola, arbour, or porch in a romantic garden, including a small one. While wisteria branches are usually capable of twisting even the strongest grids, this variety is much more "respectful" of the supports that welcome it. Also, install it in a large container on the balcony or terrace. It will pair well with a Mayleen montana clematis, a Purpurea Plena Elegans clematis, perennial peas, etc.

Planting and care

The Wisteria Diva Maria  should be planted in autumn (October) or spring (March) in fertile, deep and well-drained soil in a sunny or semi-shaded position. Add compost and water well after planting. In February, when the flower buds have formed, prune back (2 buds) the branches that are devoid of them, in order to aerate the plant. Do not keep more than 4 flower buds (rounded) on the same stem. To train a wisteria to climb a tree, no training pruning is required.
