Prunus avium Bigarreau Summit - Cherry Tree

The Summit Sweet Cherry Tree is a variety that produces very large, sweet fruits with firm and crunchy flesh and bright red skin. Flowering starts at the end of March. To ensure good fruit set, it is recommended to plant this variety near a Napoleon, Van or Hedelfingen Sweet Cherry Tree, within a radius of 20 to 30 m. Planting is preferably done in autumn for harvesting starting in June.

The Summit Sweet Cherry Tree produces very large, sweet, juicy, and tasty fruits. The cherries, with their bright red skin, have firm and crunchy flesh. Enjoy them right after picking or, if the harvest is abundant, use them to make pies, clafoutis, jams, and preserves. Cherries are rich in vitamin C, minerals, and trace elements.

The Summit variety is originally from Canada. Starting from the end of March, the Summit Sweet Cherry Tree is covered with small white flowers that appear before the leaves. This variety is self-fertile, but for better pollination, it is recommended to plant it near Napoleon, Van or Hedelfingen varieties, within a radius of 20 to 30 m. The Summit variety is harvested starting in June. The harvest can be more or less abundant depending on the year and may exhibit an alternating pattern, allowing the tree to replenish its reserves. Fruit production becomes optimal after 6 to 7 years. Cherries should be picked when ripe, as they do not ripen further after harvest.

The Sweet Cherry Tree (Prunus avium) belongs to the Rosaceae family. It is a medium-sized tree, reaching a height of 5 to 10 m at maturity. Hardy, it can withstand temperatures down to -20 °C, while the flowers are susceptible to spring frosts and are damaged at -2 °C. Its rounded habit provides a beautiful shaded space, which is very pleasant during summer. Its alternate, toothed leaves are shiny and dark green, then take on a lovely reddish hue in autumn before falling. Adapted to all regions of France, the Sweet Cherry Tree can be planted on a short grass meadow, at the back of a flower bed, or within an orchard.
