2 out of 3 plants arrived, but the company took the necessary steps afterward to fix the issue. Lovely plants, now planted and growing well.

Description

Hakonechloa macra, also known as Japanese forest grass, is a native plant of Japanese woodlands. This ornamental grass has beautiful arched tufts of slender leaves that resemble bamboo. It slowly spreads and forms magnificent variegated cushions that can reach a height of 30cm (11.8 in) after a few years of cultivation. It thrives in shaded areas with cool, humus-rich soil and is perfect for creating an exotic-looking garden, a cool rockery, or simply growing in a pot.

Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola' is a variety of this trendy grass with stunning foliage, striped green with gold. It looks superb in flower beds and is easy to grow in pots. It will find a special place in a semi-shaded corner of a terrace, alongside hostas, ferns and heucheras.

Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola' can tolerate any exposure if the soil remains moist. However, this grass will have the best effect in shaded parts of the garden.

Planting and care

The Hakonechloa prefers moist to wet, but well-drained soil. It is tolerant of all exposures, tolerates shade, and can handle the sun in a cool, rocky soil. Spring fertilisation promotes the growth of new leaves. Trim your plant in late February before the emergence of new leaves. For container cultivation, make sure to water regularly. It is often useful to add a water retainer such as stockosorb to the potting soil.
