Description
Agapanthus, also known as Agapanthus 'Queen Mum', has a long blooming period from June to August. It produces large umbels of trumpet-shaped flowers with a unique colour: a blue-violet base that fades to pure white at the tip. These flowers make a great addition to any vase and add a fresh feel to your home. The agapanthus foliage is evergreen in mild climates, adding year-round decoration to your garden.
Agapanthus is not very hardy and can withstand temperatures up to -5°C, so it is best to plant it in a large pot on a sunny terrace to ensure abundant blooming. If you choose to plant it in the ground, planting en masse in a warm, perennial flowerbed or border is recommended. It can even be grown alone. Agapanthus is a versatile plant that can thrive in a seaside garden, an English cottage, or an urban garden.
When mature, Agapanthus Queen Mum can reach a height of 1m (3.3 ft) and a width of 50cm (19.7 in). This perennial plant is native to South Africa and is one of the few varieties of agapanthus that bear bicolour flowers.

Planting and care
The Agapanthus Queen Mum is a plant that thrives in full sun and warm weather. It should be grown in a protected area that faces south and is well-drained in winter. The plant is drought-resistant, but make sure to water it regularly twice a week during the growth period. Avoid watering it while it is dormant. In winter, too much moisture can be harmful to the plant, so mulch the base with a 20 cm (7.9 in) thick layer of leaf mould and cover the plant with a mesh or fleece to protect it from wind damage. Snow can also protect the plant from excess moisture and cold. If the plant is in a pot, bring it indoors for shelter. When planting, make sure to plant it at a depth of 30 cm (11.8 in) in a pot with leaf mould and compost, as its roots are fleshy. Once established, avoid disturbing the Agapanthus 'Queen Mum'. Remove faded leaves in autumn and cut off the faded stems so that the plant does not exhaust itself in producing seeds.
