Description

The Alocasia 'Dewey's Reversa' is a stunning cultivar of Elephant's Ear, very rare in cultivation. This houseplant reveals deeply veined leaves in dark emerald green, on a lamina of lighter green, with the darker colour dominating the overall impression. The leaf is highly textured, losing its shine but gaining fascination. Decidedly exotic and elegant, this compact alocasia, with its fairly large leaves, is perfect for small spaces, but especially as the star of a collection. To ensure successful growth, provide it with bright indirect light, such as that of a well-lit room without direct sunlight, and make sure to keep its substrate slightly moist without excess.

The Alocasia 'Dewey's Reversa' belongs to the Araceae family, which includes many tropical plants with spectacular foliage. This horticultural cultivar offers modest dimensions: at ripeness, it reaches a height and spread of approximately 40 to 50 cm. The plant has an upright habit and slow growth. Its leaves, broad and arrowhead-shaped, have a remarkable texture with deep veins.
Native to the tropical undergrowth of Borneo, the botanical species naturally grows in rich, well-drained soil under dense, humid cover. These conditions explain its specific needs: filtered light, high humidity (around 60-70%), and a constant temperature between 15 and 27°C. Its leaves and stems contain toxic compounds that can cause irritation if ingested. Alocasias are plants of warm, humid tropical climates and partial shade. Magnificent, they can sometimes be difficult to acclimatise to our interiors, where the air is too dry. Their roots are also sensitive to excess moisture, as well as to lack of water. The ideal temperature for growing them is around 20°C.

The Alocasia Dewey's Reversa is a highly ornamental and original plant. Its exotic and refined appearance fits just as well in a minimalist style, where it becomes a central element, as in a tropical setting, where it enhances the verdant character of the space and naturally finds more ambient humidity surrounded by its peers. Do not hesitate to place a humidifier nearby. Pair it with plants that have similar needs, such as other aroids like Monstera or Philodendron.
