Native to Southeast Asia, Alocasia plants thrive in warm, humid tropical climates with partial shade. This is a rhizomatous perennial from the Araceae family, related to Arums. Its natural habitat is tropical forests bathed in humid air where temperatures never drop below 20°C.

Alocasia 'Antoro Velvet' is a horticultural hybrid. Depending on pot size and growing conditions, this Alocasia will reach between 40 and 70 cm in height, or even more. It forms a clump of long, fleshy petioles bearing thick, outward-arching, arrow-shaped leaves. The glossy leaf is deeply veined, and the leaf surface allows water to slide off. As it grows, the plant branches from the base, maintaining an elegant form. When an old leaf is removed, two new ones take its place.
