Description

Aster ericoides 'Esther' is a charming variety with many advantages. It forms a dense and spreading bush with long stems. It produces an abundant autumn flowering. The soft pink petal colour blends beautifully with the golden yellow heart of the flowerheads. The very fine leaves resemble those of heather, giving a lot of lightness to this perennial that adds beauty to the garden long before the flowers appear.

Aster ericoides are good, hardy, perennial plants with very limited requirements. They do not require staking and are not very susceptible to diseases. They do not need to be divided and integrate perfectly into mixed borders with any type of perennials. A beautiful and long flowering period, decorative foliage in summer, and very few requirements, make 'Esther' a must-have for all aster enthusiasts.

The Aster genus offers a wide diversity of floriferous varieties, of all colours, for spring, summer, or autumn, for all kinds of uses and growing mediums.

Planting and care

Plant in autumn or spring in moist but well-drained ordinary soil, even clayey or stony. It can tolerate occasional drought. It prefers a sunny exposure but can tolerate partial shade where it will have a slightly looser habit. It is important to avoid strong winds that could flatten the clumps. In a flower bed, maintain a spacing of at least 50cm (20in) between plants. This plant tends to produce suckers, so it may be necessary to contain its growth as it tends to spread when it is happy.
