Description

Campanula lactiflora Prichard's Variety forms large bushes of lavender-blue flowers, reaching 1 metre (3 feet) in height.

The lactiflora bellflowers are characterized by very tall stems of star-shaped flowers, grouped in large clusters. 'Pritchard's Variety' bears magnificent lavender-blue flowers in early summer. The light green foliage is arranged in whorls along the stems.

This bellflower thrives in sun and partial shade, and prefers rich soils, and should not lack moisture during the summer.

When the stems or leaves are cut, they secrete white, milky latex, which is why they are called lactiflora.

Planting and care

Plant campanula lactiflora Pritchards Variety in a sunny spot with well-dug, rich and moist soil. Do not rely on the size of the plant in the pot staying the same: give it the space you would give to a small bush, as it quickly spreads! Prune the stems after flowering to encourage new flowers. We recommend cutting back your plant to 50 cm (20in) in early winter and removing faded flowers to prevent self-seeding. In windy conditions, it may be necessary to stake. You can divide the clumps in autumn and spring. In pots, apply organic fertilizer at least once a year.
