The plants arrived in good condition, but the flowering is campanulate instead of being white... I already have plenty of mauve and violet campanulate flowers in my garden, it's a pity...

Description

Campanula porscharskyana 'E.H Frost' is a vigorous, spreading perennial suitable for rockeries and walls, in full sun or light shade. It forms a prostrate clump with light green foliage, from which numerous small, open white star-shaped flowers emerge in spring and early summer. This wonderful ground cover is highly floriferous and adapts well to any location adding a bright touch to slightly shady areas.

Campanula porscharskyana 'E.H Frost' belongs to the Campanulaceae family. It is a cultivar derived from Campanula porscharskyana, native to the Balkan Mountains (Croatia). In the wild, it is found in rock crevices and scree slopes in high mountain areas. This perennial forms a cushion 30 cm (12in) tall, with a minimum spread of 40 cm (16in). It spreads through stems that root upon contact with the ground, allowing it to occupy a significant area, although less than the 'Stella' or 'Lisduggan Variety' cultivars. Flowering begins in late spring and continues throughout summer, more pronounced in cooler climates. The star-shaped flowers measure 2 to 2.5 cm (1in) in diameter and are carried in loose panicles along the hairy stems. The foliage is semi-evergreen to evergreen depending on the climate, very light green and composed of small, hairy, long-stalked, heart-shaped leaves.

Campanula porscharskyana prefers moist, light, and well-drained soils, but it dislikes stagnant moisture that causes root rot. It requires well-drained soil, even limestone, but slightly moist to thrive. It can be planted in non-scorching full sun or partial shade, sheltered from strong winds that can dry it out. This mountain plant does not appreciate excessively hot climates or nights with high temperatures. It thrives during warm summer days tempered by short nights. Its creeping stems can be easily controlled by pruning. Clean the foliage after flowering and in spring.

Campanula porscharskyana 'E.H Frost' is primarily a rockery plant. It quickly fills gaps in paving and walls. It also fits well in a wild garden. It can be admired in pots, in a light and well-drained substrate, and in hanging baskets where it will cascade in small, bright curtains.

Planting and care

Campanula porscharskyana appreciates cool, light, moist soils, but dislikes stagnant moisture which causes the roots to rot. It requires well-drained soil, even limestone, slightly moist to thrive. You can plant it in non-scorching sun, or in partial shade, sheltered from strong winds that dry it out. This mountain plant does not appreciate climates that are too hot, nor nights where the temperature remains high. It develops well during hot summer days tempered by short nights.
