Description
Delphinium elatum 'Double Innocence' is a perennial variety of Larkspur with double and radiant flowers. Standing at nearly 1.5 meters (5 feet) tall, it reveals large spikes of crumpled and toothed white flowers from June onwards, displaying greenish hues on the petals and in the centre at the stamen cluster called the "bee".
Delphinium elatum 'Double Innocence' belongs to the Elatum group, which includes most large delphiniums with tightly packed flowers on tall, usually unbranched flower stalks exceeding 6 cm (2in) in diameter. These varieties bloom from summer to autumn, provided that the stems are cut as they fade, and make excellent cut flowers.
The height of tall Larkspurs will structure and balance volumes in the garden. They add volume and lightness against a dark background of hedges or conifers. They like a sunny exposure sheltered from strong winds in deep, humus-bearing soil that remains moist even in summer. You can mix them with other delphiniums in pink and blue shades, and associate them with 'Globemaster' alliums to play with contrasting shapes or perennial geraniums or baby's breath for a touch of lightness. They fit well in both tidy, geometric flower beds and rustic scenes, such as at the base of a climbing rose.
Note: From March to September, the stems of our delphiniums are pruned short to promote better branching of the crown and achieve optimal rooting. This also prevents the stems from breaking during transport.

Planting and care
'Double Innocence' Delphinium is not difficult to grow but still requires some precautions: delphiniums dislike heavy and wet or dry and poor soils. The ideal soil is deep and fertile, rich in humus, not compacted, moist, even in summer, but without excess wet in winter, and sheltered from strong winds. Under these conditions, they will live for many years. Beware of slugs and snails that can cause damage at the beginning of the growing season. Full sun will limit the risk of mildew. Install tall stakes around the plants.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
