Field of plants arrived quickly. Young plants with just one leaf, yellow and withered. Planted immediately. We will see in the spring if the growth is good.

Description

Less spectacular, shorter, but also easier to grow, Delphinium grandiflorum has slightly loose, light spikes adorned with small remarkable single intense azure blue flowers. Well-spaced on the spike, they tirelessly renew themselves from June to September, dominating a branching plant with finely cut foliage. Easy to grow in moist, humus-bearing soil, with its head in the sun, this perennial larkspur is also resistant to diseases and parasites.

Delphinium grandiflorum is a plant of the renunculaceae family belonging to a group of perennial varieties derived from Delphinium grandiflorum, also known as Chinese Delphinium, native to Russia, Mongolia, Japan, and China. This variety stands out for the unique blue of its flowers. The plant has a bushy and compact habit, less than 50 cm (20in) allowing it to do without staking. Floral stems emerge from a tuft of large palmate, finely divided leaves, from June to September, depending on the climate. This variety produces branching spikes, 15 cm (6in) long, adorned with 3 to 4 cm (1 to 2in) diameter, graceful and light flowers which consist of 5 petaloid sepals, the upper one extended by a delicately curled spur. They are an extraordinary blue, close to gentian blue. The plant develops from a woody rootstock that sinks vertically into the soil.

Delphiniums are very floriferous perennial herbaceous plants that always attract attention in a garden. Delphinium grandiflorum allows you to appreciate these plants for longer as they live for several years. Their characteristic silhouette always adds colour, lightness and charm to perennial plant beds. They are good companions for moss or gallica roses, with which they create charming and romantic scenes. You can also create a beautiful combination with soft orange daylilies and baby's breath Rosenschleier. This variety is well suited for creating flowering pots. Its flowers hold up well in bouquets.

Note: From March to September, the stems of our delphiniums are cut short to promote better branching of the crown and achieve optimal rooting. This also prevents the stems from breaking during transport.

Planting and care

Delphiniums are not difficult to grow but still require some precautions: these plants dislike heavy and wet or dry and poor soils. The soil that suits them is fertile, rich in humus, not compact, moist, even in summer, but without excess water in winter, and sheltered from strong winds. Under these conditions, they will live for many years. Also be wary of slugs and snails, which can cause damage at the beginning of growth.
