Geranium cinereum Jolly Jewel Purple® - Cranesbill

Hardy Geranium cinereum 'Jolly Jewel™ Purple' is part of the Jolly Jewel series, made up of floriferous and brightly coloured plants. Its flowers are very luminous, a vivid purplish pink, streaked with purple. They keep blooming throughout summer on a cushion of cut leaves in a slightly greyish matt green. Plant this small perennial between the stones of a rockery or at the edge of a well-drained bed. You can also grow it in a pretty pot on the balcony!

A member of the Geraniaceae family, Geranium 'Jolly Jewel Purple' is a cultivar derived from the alpine species Geranium cinereum, the ashy geranium, widespread from Southern Europe to the Balkans. It is part of the Jolly Jewels™ series, developed in the Netherlands by breeder Marco van Noort. The series comprises ten different colours, including 'Purple'.
This geranium forms a dense cushion of dark grey-green foliage. The deeply lobed leaves are about 5 to 7 cm in diameter; they are rounded with fine divisions that are soft to the touch. The overall plant reaches approximately 20 cm in height with a spread of 25 cm, within two to three years. The leaves can be evergreen or deciduous. Flowering extends from May or June until September or October, depending on conditions. The flowers, in the shape of an open cup, 3 - 4 cm in diameter, display a saturated colour. They are carried above the foliage, grouped in 2 to 3 flowers per flower stem.

Geranium 'Jolly Jewel Purple' can be used in rock gardens, at the front of perennial beds or in sunny borders, in afternoon partial shade. It will look its best in a window box or a flowering pot. It combines well with plants having the same requirements, such as candytuft, aubrieta, sea thrift, and dwarf asters... It is an ideal perennial for alpine gardens and very mineralised landscapes.
