Planted, one month ago, at the beginning of September, it immediately bloomed and continued to produce flowers.

Description

Hemerocallis 'Luxury Lace' is a variety full of sweetness and poetry, awarded many times. Its flowers are not very large, but they have a unique shape, resembling starfish, with delicately curved branches, beautifully fringed at the edges. Each pleasantly scented flower has a pale lilac-pink colour mixed with cream, around a small lime green throat. Very floriferous, easy to grow in all our regions, this beautiful daylily is a sturdy perennial that lives up to expectations. Invite it to your garden!

Hemerocallis belongs to the Asphodelaceae family. These are hardy perennial plants with deciduous, sometimes semi-evergreen foliage. The 'Luxury Lace' variety, introduced in 1959, continues its remarkable cultivar career, being the origin of more than 50 recent varieties. The plant grows quite quickly, forming a dense clump that will reach 80cm (32in) in height when in bloom, 60cm (24in) for the foliage, with a relative spread of 50 to 60cm (20 to 24in). Daylilies tend to spread when they like the soil. The open flowers measure about 12 to 13cm (5in) in diameter. The petals are lanceolate, quite narrow, with very undulate edges, in a rather smooth and satiny texture. Each flower lasts only one day, but the flowering renews continuously between June and July, then sporadically in September. The linear and abundant foliage is deciduous. Daylilies are plants with short rhizomes and fleshy roots that tolerate dry soils, but are more opulent and floriferous in moist soil.

Very easy to grow, these plants thrive in both shade and sun. Some of them are slightly invasive, so divide the clumps every four or five years, preferably in autumn, after flowering. Daylilies are often called the perfect perennial plant due to their vibrant colours, ability to tolerate any environment, and their exuberant nature that blends well with other perennials. Plant them in generous clumps in the background of your flower beds. All summer bulb flowers can be planted alongside daylilies. It will fit perfectly in the setting of a romantic garden, with bellflowers, penstemons, perennial flaxes, or phlox. Plant dwarf varieties in large pots with a minimum depth of 30 cm (12in) and place them on a balcony or patio.

The flowers are edible: they enhance salads and decorate desserts.

Planting and care

Plant your Hemerocallis 'Luxury Lace' in good garden soil that is enriched with humus and compost, and is not too clayey. In these conditions, your perennial will have good tolerance to summer droughts and will not suffer from winter frosts. Very easy to grow, this variety is not susceptible to parasites or diseases, and it is not necessary to treat them. Rodents are not interested in them either. Hemerocallis thrive both in partial shade and in full sun, with 4 to 5 hours of daily sunlight being sufficient. Plant by burying the collar 3 to 4cm (1 to 2in) below the surface. Do not plant them too close together, as the gaps will quickly fill in. Keep the soil moderately moist for a few weeks after planting. Divide the clumps in autumn after flowering.
