Description

Heuchera Binoche is a perennial with a bushy habit that blooms from June to July. It produces white flowers in small bells arranged along an upright stem. These flowers are accompanied by very dark purple evergreen leaves with undulate edges.

At maturity, heucheras can reach a height and spread of 50 cm (20 in). This hardy plant is ornamental. Once very common in our grandmothers' gardens, it is making a comeback with new cultivars offering a wide range of colours.

Heuchera is found in rock gardens and shady areas, as well as in borders and large flower beds. It can also be grown in containers on terraces. The flowers make good cut flowers. The bells add lightness to bouquets. This Heuchera Binoche pairs perfectly with graceful grasses and perennials with linear foliage, such as tradescantias (spiderwort).

Planting and care

Grow Heuchera Binoche in full sun or partial shade. If you want to grow it in the shade, place it in a moist location. Plant your heuchera in a light, fertile, and well-drained soil. Good garden soil is perfect. For planting, prepare a planting hole of 20 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm (8 in x 8 in x 8 in). If your soil is heavy, mix some compost with the crumbled soil, partially refill the hole, and place your bucket (after removing the pot) so that the top of the plant's root ball is covered with 3 cm (1 in) of soil. Applying a slow-release fertiliser (dried blood, crushed horn) will nourish your plant during its rooting period without the risk of burning. Firm the soil and water thoroughly to eliminate air pockets. If the weather is dry, you will need to water regularly for a few weeks to encourage the establishment of your plant. In late winter, heucheras renew their foliage, so we recommend cutting back the previous year's leaves in January or February. The woody stump tends to emerge from the soil, so apply a mulch every year. If necessary, dig up and replant the clumps from September to October, placing the collar at ground level, or replace the plants.
