Description

Heuchera 'Ginger Ale' is a ground cover variety with orange-satin foliage veined with silver on the underside, flowering white in summer.

Hardy down to -15 °C (5 °F), this perennial with rhizomes grows in a spreading and dense clump. Its rounded, lobed and clearly veined leaves are yellow-orange with a silvery fuzz on top and purple underneath, and are carried on long petioles. Delicate spikes of 35 cm (14 in) in height bear small pinkish-white flowers shaped like bells in a very light arrangement.

Heuchera 'Ginger Ale' is easy to grow and thrives in any humus-bearing and moist soil, in shade or partial shade. To prevent the stump from lifting, mulch every year. Heuchera, once very common in our grandparents' gardens, is making a comeback with new varieties in vibrant colours!

Heuchera 'Ginger Ale', when combined with hostas, heathers, or ferns, is the quintessential plant for partial shade!

Planting and care

Heuchera 'Ginger Ale' can be planted from September to April in a light, rich, moist and well-drained soil in partial or full shade. Reserve a depth of 20 cm (8 in) and spacing of 30 cm (12 in). Mulch the soil in summer, fertilise potted plants, and divide old, bare clumps in spring. During winter, heucheras renew their foliage, so it is best to cut back the previous year's leaves from January to February. Beware of leaf eelworms, vine weevils, and galls.
