Description

Heuchera 'Mint Julep' is a vigorous perennial, which blooms from June to July. It offers cream-white flowers in small bells gathered along an upright stem. These flowers are accompanied by magnificent evergreen leaves, silver with green mint veins, giving a refreshing appearance.

When mature, the Heuchera 'Mint Julep' can reach 30cm (12in) in height and 50cm (20in) in width. This very hardy plant is an excellent ornamental. Once very present in our grandmothers' gardens, it is making a comeback with new cultivars offering a wide range of colours.

Heuchera is found in rocky areas and shady places as well as in borders and large flowerbeds. It can also be grown in containers on terraces. The flowers are good for cutting. The bells bring lightness to bouquets.

Combine the 'Mint Julep' Heuchera with 'Spring Green' tulips and green-toned perennials: Carex flacca, alchemilla mollis for a refreshing scene. Add a touch of purple with 'Black Sprite' centaurea or 'Red Dragon' persicaria microcephala to bring life to the scene.

Planting and care

Grow Heuchera Bronze Beauty in full sun or partial shade. If you want to grow it in shade, place it in a moist area. Plant the heuchera in a light, fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Good garden soil is perfect. For planting, prepare a planting hole of 20cm (8in) x 20 cm (8in) x 20cm (8in). If your soil is heavy, mix some compost with the crumbled soil, partially fill the hole and place your plant (after removing the pot) in the hole so that the top of the plant's root ball is covered with 3cm (1in) of soil. Adding a slow-release fertilizer (bonemeal) will nourish your plant during its rooting period without the risk of burning. Firm the soil and water thoroughly to eliminate air pockets. If the weather is dry, you will need to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate the establishment of your plant. Heucheras renew their foliage in late winter, so we recommend cutting back the leaves from the previous year in January or February. The woody stump tends to raise up from the ground, so apply a mulch every year. If necessary, dig up and replant the clumps from September to October, making sure the collar is level with the ground, or replace the plants.
