Description

Anemone rupicola x hupehensis 'Regal Swan' bears floral stems with sumptuous single flowers adorned with dark pink to lilac pink petals, washed with bluish mauve on the reverse. Awarded several times, it is a very floriferous, fairly short variety with a compact habit. It blooms early in the season, from June or July until October. This exceptionally hardy perennial, with timeless charm, brightens up slightly shady areas of the garden, even in woodland. To be planted in cool, humus-rich soil, that is not too chalky.

The 'Regal Swan' Japanese Anemone belongs to the Ranunculaceae family. It is likely a cross between Anemone rupicola and Anemone hupehensis. More vigorous than most varieties, its flowers bloom from late June onwards. A highly hardy perennial, 'Regal Swan' has strong, upright floral stems that reach up to 50cm (20in) in height and about 40cm (16in) in width. The single flowers measure 7 to 8cm (3in) in diameter and are adorned with dark pink to lilac pink petals, beautifully washed with bluish mauve on the reverse. A lovely dark green foliage, composed of three lobed leaflets, provides a contrasting effect. Very easy to grow, this Japanese anemone thrives in partial shade and prefers rich, cool soil with a neutral or acidic tendency.

The 'Regal Swan' Japanese Anemone thrives in light, humus-rich soil. It tolerates brief periods of drought and can withstand non-scorching sunlight, as long as the soil retains its moisture. Plant it in the border or as a background plant in a bed, at the edge of a woodland, for example, and choose the viewing angle carefully to fully appreciate the alternating pink-mauve colours. You can plant it alongside Persicaria, Cimicifuga, and Perennial Geraniums such as Geranium nodosum, which thrives under the same conditions and features lavender-blue flowers that echo the reverse of the anemone's flowers.
