Description

We're offering you a Collection of three small Japanese anemones not exceeding 45-50 cm in height, with a healthy foliage, perfectly suited for ornamenting small spaces and flowering terraces. Bursting with health, they bloom unrestrained from late summer until the end of autumn. These very hardy perennials will brighten up the slightly darker areas of the garden, even in shade or under trees. Plant them in cool, humus-bearing soil that is not too chalky. Japanese anemones can live for about ten years in the same spot.

The collection consists of:

- x 1 Anemone (x) hybrida var.japonica 'Fantasy Pocahontas': an award-winning variety at Plantarium in 2012 with flowers of 20 to 30 slightly frizzy tepals. Their colour is a very fresh silvery pink, around a wide crown of yellow-orange stamens.

- x 1 Anemone (x) hybrida 'Fantasy Jasmine': a variety with single, cup-shaped flowers of a deep purple-pink colour around a wide crown of yellow stamens.

- x 1 Anemone (x) hybrida 'Fantasy Ariel': a variety with single flowers vividly coloured in dark magenta pink with a yellow-orange centre.

The Japanese anemone is one of the most beautiful autumn flowers. Light and graceful, it sways gently in the wind, indifferent to the first frosts. The varieties in this collection can be planted in the middle or on the edge of semi-shaded flowerbeds or in large pots on the terrace. In the ground, space the plants 40-50 cm apart so that each can develop freely. Easy to grow, these perennials should be planted in a mixture of garden soil and potting compost. In pots, opt for a horticultural compost that is rich and retains moisture well. Combine their elegant flowering with the grace of Asters and the nostalgic charm of perennial chrysanthemum. The finely cut foliage of anemones adds a beautiful dark green touch to cut flower bouquets.

Planting and care

Anemones from Japan grow in partial shade or non-scorching sun, in slightly moist, humus-rich, loose, and not too chalky soil. They spread slowly with the help of their underground rootstocks. Plant them outdoors in spring or autumn, in a sheltered location from strong winds that would flatten the clumps of the taller ones, spacing them 40 cm apart. Once the young plants are established, they should not be disturbed. The flowering becomes more and more abundant as the years go by. In late autumn, cut the flower stalks down to ground level. Every 2 or 3 years, add well-decomposed compost to their base to enrich the soil, as they are quite demanding.
