Safety tips:

The main risk with these tools is the projection of metal splinters, either from the tool itself or from the object being struck. The splinter can be due to a metallurgical defect, simple aging of the tool, or improper use. The user must protect their eyes and body from the risks of projections and splinters. Safety goggles and appropriate clothing must be worn. The striking surfaces of the mauls and merlins have undergone heat treatment, giving them good resistance to impact, but it is absolutely forbidden to strike two hard striking surfaces against each other: the risk of splintering is real and serious.
