Thanks to the people (for order preparation and shipping), the rose bush I received looks healthy. Planted near the 'William & Catherine' variety, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root... (or not?).

Description

The English rose 'Claire Austin' is a safe bet, you don't give a rose the name of your own daughter for no reason! It is a completely healthy and vigorous rose that can form a bush or a small climber depending on how it is pruned and trained. The flowers, a magnificent pearly white, are enhanced by a fragrance that is both powerful and subtle. The bud, initially a light lemon yellow, opens into a beautiful regular rosette of petals.

This beautiful bush, which reaches about 1.30 m (4ft) if pruned quite short each year, can reach up to 2 m (7ft) if left unpruned. Its habit is elegant, its long flexible stems gracefully bend, they can be trained on a support. This variety is very effective in a border or in a flowering hedge. The white roses stand out beautifully against the beautiful dark green and abundant foliage. They can be accompanied by perennial plants and the colour range of your choice.

English roses are well known for being highly perpetual and their flowers are renowned for being beautiful regular rosettes and highly fragrant.

Planting and care

Plant your English Rose 'Claire Austin' in a sunny or lightly shaded location. English roses are tolerant, but they won't like excessive limestone. They will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked and rich enough. To plant your rose, prepare the soil by crumbling it and adding an amendment, such as dried blood or dehydrated horn, at the bottom of the planting hole. Water thoroughly after planting to remove any air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root growth. Pruning English roses is essential for flowering. At the end of winter, shorten the branches to 3-5 buds above the ground (at the lowest), choosing an outward-facing bud for a more elegant habit. Take advantage of this pruning to remove dead wood and unsightly branches. Prune at a slant above a bud. As the flowers bloom, remove faded blossoms, as this stimulates the development of other buds.
