This rose bush had been forgotten during delivery, and, after a phone call, it was promptly sent to me without any difficulty within 3 days; for which I am very grateful... I am eagerly awaiting its flowers.

Description

The English rose Gertrude Jekyll is truly enchanting. The deep pink flowers first appear as regular conical buds, then open into cups filled with petals that are so perfectly spiralled that you could believe the roses came straight from an artist's pencil. These petals emit a powerful fragrance reminiscent of old-fashioned roses. Rose Gertrude Jekyll repeat flowering, providing you with flowers until the start of autumn.

This is a hardy and vigorous rose can be trained as a climbing plant or a spreading bush, the important thing is to place it where you can sell it, as its fragrance is a true pleasure. Don't hesitate to combine it with other roses as well as perennials for unique mixes. The colour of its roses will bring just the right amount of sparkle to your flowerbeds.

Gertrude Jekyll is the name of an exceptional woman who left her mark on horticulture in the last century. A passionate artist in photography and painting, and later a landscape designer, she created over 400 gardens in many countries. She earned her place in a very male-dominated world, a fitting tribute that David Austin dedicates one of his roses to her.

Bred by David Austin in 1986

Planting and care

Rose Gertrude Jekyll prefers sunny locations. Excessive limestone can cause chlorosis. If you notice spotted leaves or signs of disease, remove them without delay. To plant your rose, work the soil by crumbling it and place an amendment, such as bonemeal, at the bottom of the planting hole. Water generously after planting to eliminate air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to encourage rooting. Pruning climbing roses involves removing a portion of the old branches at the base every spring, thus maintaining a framework while rejuvenating your rose. Prune the branches of the year to 3 or 4 buds. Regularly remove faded flowers during the summer to stimulate the development of younger buds.
