Thanks to the individuals (for order preparation and shipping service), the bare-root rose received is healthy. Planted near the 'Double Knock Out' variety, I am now patiently waiting for spring growth (or not)...

Description

The 'Knock Out' or 'Radrazz' Groundcover Rose is a very easy-to-grow and versatile landscape rose with a very long flowering period of semi-double blooms in a vibrant shade of Bengal rose with hints of bright red. This tireless rose adorns flower beds without interruption with almost fluorescent bouquets from spring until the first severe frosts. Its dark green foliage, dense and naturally disease-free, has earned it the highly selective ADR Label.*. Also awarded in Genoa and the United States, it is an exceptional, reliable, and carefree variety which deserves a place in every garden, even on the patio.

The 'Knock Out' or 'Radrazz' Rose belongs to the Meilland selection and is characterized by a bushy or ground-covering habit. It forms a dense, bushy shrub that will reach a height of approximately 70 cm (28in) and a spread of 60 cm (24in) at maturity. This variety bears semi-double flowers, 6 to 7 cm (2 to 3in) in diameter, in a beautiful light red shade with hints of pink, revealing a lighter centre populated with numerous stamens. They are grouped in clusters of about ten flowers, which continuously renew on the plant from May to June to October and naturally fall off when faded, giving way to red-orange hips. Their fragrance is light, perhaps more intense in hot climates. The autumn flowering is remarkable, and a lower light angle enhances the flower colour. The foliage, a very dark and glossy green, takes on a purple hue in summer and violet-purple in autumn. It covers long, thorny, and reddish stems.

The 'Knock Out' rose range has many uses: lawn borders, flower beds, slopes, wall crowning, or containers. They can be planted in all soil types, in sunny or partially shaded areas (3 hours of sunlight per day is sufficient). They offer exceptional, long-lasting blooms on healthy, shiny green foliage, often semi-evergreen. Their qualities have been rewarded with numerous awards.

*The ADR is the label of the German Federation of Rose Breeders. The designation is only granted to varieties that have passed the strictest tests in the world. The plants are simultaneously tested at ten different locations, in various soil and climate conditions, for several years. The tests assess hardiness, perennial character, and flowering without the use of any pesticides.

Planting and care

To plant roses in peat pockets, begin by working the soil to a depth of 30 cm (12in) x 30 cm (12in) and adding an amendment like blood, fish and bone at the bottom of the planting hole. Create a mound of soil at the base of the hole. Next, prepare a bucket of thick mud with water and soil and dip the plant's roots into it to coat them and prevent air bubbles. This is called "pralinage" in French. Place the plant into the planting hole, spreading the roots and ensuring the graft point is just above the ground. Fill the hole with soil and gently tamp it down. To encourage growth, remember to prune the branches to 15/20 cm (6/8in). Create a basin around the base of the roses and water them generously with a fine drizzle to get rid of air pockets and help the soil adhere to the roots. In colder regions, adding a layer of leaves or turf 20 cm (8in) deep may be useful at the base of your plants. Decorosiers don't require pruning, but you can prune them in the spring by cutting the branches in half. Removing faded flowers during summer will stimulate the growth of new flowers. These roses are naturally resistant to diseases and don't require fungicidal treatments.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
