Thanks to the individuals (for order preparation and shipping), the bare root rose received is very delicate. Planted close to the 'Sommerabend' variety, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root... or not?

Description

The Street Colours 'Belle de Grasse' 'Meibelitz' Rose is a new-generation landscape rose perfectly suited for small city gardens and container plantings. It forms a bush of modest size, dense and rounded, covered with flowers from May until frost. Exceptionally resistant to diseases and pollution, its dark green shiny foliage enhances its partially open cup-shaped flowers, dark red with a silver reverse. Versatile and low-maintenance, it is also an ideal rose for beginner gardeners.

The 'Belle de Grasse' or 'Meibelitz' Rose is a Meilland landscape rose part of a new range, the 'Street Colours', designed to adapt to small urban spaces, with remarkable floribundity, disease-free plants and minimal maintenance. It eventually forms a slightly spreading bush, 40 to 60 cm (16 to 24in) tall and 50 to 60 cm (20 to 24in) wide. From spring to autumn, on glossy dark green foliage, bouquets of 3 to 15 flowers per stem, with about 40 petals, 5 to 6 cm (2in) wide, bloom. Their colour is dark red, highlighted by a silver reverse that gives them relief and elegance. Their rounded shape reveals a golden yellow stamen centre.

This Belle de Grasse 'Meibelitz' rose thrives in all gardens, regardless of size, on balconies and patios. It adapts to all soils that are not too dry and all climates. Easy to grow, all left is to admire it and find companions in borders or edging. Some silver-foliaged plants, such as Stachys or Artemisias, and purple shrubs like Berberis create, a beautiful contrast. Grasses add a touch of elegance and also take on silver reflections in autumn, while blue-flowered perennials like salvias and nepetas complement its colour. It quickly becomes ornamental in a large pot before joining bouquets in a vase.

Planting and care

The 'Belle de Grasse' rose is a low-maintenance plant regarding soil and exposure. To plant your rose in a pot, work the soil to a depth of 25 cm (10in), crumble the soil well, and place a base amendment such as blood, fish and bone at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your plant free from its pot, and cover the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil. Fill in the hole and water generously to eliminate any air pockets. During dry weather, it's necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root growth.

Similarly, remember to water regularly in hot and dry weather during the first two years. Once established, your rose will not require watering in the summer. Also, remember to apply special rose fertilisers to stimulate plant flowering.
