Thanks to the individuals (for order preparation and shipping), the bare-root rose received appears healthy to me. Planted near the 'New Vesuvia' variety, I am now patiently awaiting its establishment... (or not?).

Description

The Street Colours 'Moulin Rouge' or 'Meitralight' Rose is a new-generation landscape rose from a series suited for small urban gardens and container plantings. It forms a bush of modest size, as wide as it is tall, covered in flowers from May until frost. Exceptionally resistant to diseases and pollution, its shiny green grass-like foliage enhances its semi-double, ruffled corolla flowers in dark red. Versatile and low-maintenance, it is also an ideal rose for beginner gardeners.

The 'Moulin Rouge' or 'Meitralight' Rose is a Meilland landscape rose part of a new range, 'Street Colours', designed for small urban spaces, with remarkable floribundity, disease-free plants, and minimal maintenance. It eventually forms a dense bush, as wide as it is tall, measuring 50 to 70 cm (20 to 28in) in all directions. From spring to autumn, bouquets of 2 to 10 flowers per stem bloom on shiny green foliage with approximately 15 petals and a width of 6 cm (2in). Their colour is a dark red, highlighted by some smoky reflections that give it depth. Their shape opens up to a heart of golden yellow stamens.

This Moulin Rouge 'Meitralight' rose thrives in all gardens, regardless of size, on balconies and patios. It adapts to all soils that are not too dry and to all climates. Easy to grow, all that remains is for you to admire it and find companions in a flower bed or plant it as a border or monochrome hedge. Some plants with silver foliage, such as Stachys or Artemisia, make a beautiful setting for its red flowers. Grasses add a touch of elegance and also take on silver reflections in autumn. Perennials with blue flowers, such as salvias and nepetas, complement its colour. In a large pot, it quickly becomes highly ornamental before joining bouquets in a vase.

Planting and care

This 'Moulin Rouge' rose is a low-maintenance plant regarding soil and exposure. To plant your rose in a pot, work the soil to a depth of 25 cm (10in), crumble the soil well, and place a base amendment such as blood, fish and bone at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your plant free from its pot, and cover the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil. Fill in the hole and water generously to eliminate any air pockets. During dry weather, it's necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root growth.

Similarly, remember to water regularly in hot and dry weather during the first two years. Once established, your rose will not require watering in the summer. Also, remember to apply special rose fertilisers to stimulate plant flowering.
