Thanks to Thibault for the order preparation and Aline from the shipping department, the bare-root rose received is rather delicate. Planted near the 'Sommerabend' variety, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root...or not?

Description

Rosa Bees Paradise Light Red, with its small, bright red semi-double flowers, is part of a collection of compact roses that form large, floriferous and easy-to-grow cushions, offering bees an easily accessible, large heart of pollen-rich stamens. Its small size allows it to be grown anywhere in sunny borders or used to create cheerful flowering pots from June to October.

The flowers of Rosa Bees Paradise Light Red, gathered in small terminal clusters, come from the polyantha rose, an old hybrid derived from Rosa multiflora and R. chinensis. They are particularly rich in nectar and pollen. It is well-branched and forms a very dense bush about 50 cm (20in) tall and 60 cm (24in) wide. The semi-double cup-shaped flowers, 2 to 4 cm (1 to 2in) in diameter, consist of 5 to 10 red petals. They open up to reveal a heart filled with golden yellow stamens. The flowering starts in June and continues in successive waves until October. With Bees Paradise roses, the faded flowers fall off on their own, without the need for pruning. Flowering will slow down if the soil is too dry in summer, only to resume in September. This variety develops fairly dark, glossy, deciduous foliage that falls off in autumn. Its resistance to disease is very good.

Robust Bees Paradise Light Red Rose adapts to all soils that are not too dry, but prefers fertile and deep soils. Its dense and low habit means it can be used as ground cover, in large borders, on rockeries, or on slopes. It can also be planted in groups of 3, arranged in a triangle, in the centre of a small bed. Plant it en masse along pathways or to highlight shrub borders. It pairs well with light or opulent perennials, or other dwarf roses from the Bees Paradise series, the 'Bordure Blanche' rose, or the 'Bordure Vive' rose. It can be grown with perennial geraniums (Geranium Blue Cloud, Anne Folkard, Nimbus, Orion, Rozanne), campanulas (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, snapdragons, foxgloves, or carnations. It is perfect for decorating the terrace or balcony, planted in a beautiful pot or a planter.

Obtained from Tantau (Germany) in 2013.

Planting and care

Bees Paradise roses prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day) but sheltered from the burning rays of midday and strong winds. They like loose, permeable, deep, and fertile soils. They prefer neutral to slightly acidic soil, but they will thrive in any garden as long as the soil is well-cultivated and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose, work the soil to a depth of 25 cm (10in), break it up well and place a base fertiliser such as bonemeal at the bottom of the planting hole. Remove your rose from its pot and position, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, backfill, and water generously to remove any air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to aid root growth. Provide your rose with special rose fertiliser that stimulates flowering.

Roses are often stained or unsightly in late summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These stains are not harmful to the rose; it is a natural phenomenon.
