A little gem... floriferous, vigorous... The flowers are a dazzling white then speckled with small pink spots... These are the base pruning roses I was looking for.

Description

Rosa Aspirin Rose rose is an excellent variety of shrub rose appreciated for its beautiful health and endless romantic flowering. This bush spreading forms a generous ground cover covered with clusters of beautifullt formed, white and double roses, delicately tinged with pink at the heart. They bloom for 5 to 6 months on elegant dark green foliage. Highly resistant to diseases, it requires little attention or care. This unparalleled rose works well in front of taller shrubs, in large borders along pathways...

The flowers of Rosa Aspirin Rose are gathered in terminal clusters, derived from the polyantha rose, an old hybrid of Rosa multiflora and Rosa chinensis. This excellent German variety has received numerous awards: the prestigious and highly selective ADR label in 1996 for its good disease resistance, a Rumbeke Silver Medal in 1996, a Silver Medal in Baden-Baden, the Top Rose in The Hague in 2001, and the Barcelona Gold Medal in 2007.

This small, flexible and spreading bush is wider than it is tall. It will reach approximately 80 cm (32in) high and a spread of 1 m (3ft), or even 1.30 m (4ft), in a few years. The 4-5 cm (2in) double flowers, with 20-25 petals are abundantly and continuously produced from May to October if the soil remains moist. Their colour is dominated by white and slightly pink at the heart. They open widely in a cup shape at maturity, with a small centre of golden stamens. They bloom in large clusters until the frost. This very vigorous and highly disease-resistant variety develops elegant, dense, shiny dark green foliage. Its stems are thorny.

Bred by Tantau, 1997.

Rosa 'Aspirin Rose' will thrive in all soils that are not too dry and all climates, which allows it to be grown in many regions. It works well in a border, in a mass planting, or on a large slope where it will cover the ground. It can also be planted in groups of 3, arranged in a triangle, or as a specimen on a lawn. Plant it en masse or with pink (Maman Turbat, The Fairy) or red (Tapis Volant) ground cover roses to highlight a pathway or borders of light or opulent shrubs and perennials. For example, it can be paired with perennial geraniums (Geranium Blue Cloud, Anne Folkard, Nimbus, Orion), bellflowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, snapdragons, foxgloves, or perennial salvias. It blends perfectly with pink or white flowering shrub roses in a romantic garden.

Planting and care

Rose bushes prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sunlight per day) but sheltered from the scorching midday rays and strong winds. Rose bushes like loose, permeable soil that is rich in humus. They prefer slightly acidic soil but will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well-worked and sufficiently fertile. To plant your rose bush, dig the soil in a 25 cm (10in) cube and place a base fertiliser such as bonemeal at the bottom of the planting hole. Remove your rose from its pot and position it covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, fill in and water generously to eliminate air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to aid root growth. Provide your rose bush with special rose fertiliser that stimulates flowering.

Rose bushes are often stained or unsightly at the end of summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These stains are not harmful to the rose bush, it is a natural phenomenon.
