Thanks to the team (for order preparation and shipping), the rose bush I received looks healthy. Planted close to the 'Friesia' and 'Sunmaid' varieties, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root... or not?

Description

The  'Golden Border' rose bush is a compact variety of rose bush with small clustered flowers, that is highly remontant and particularly bright! From June to November, it bears clusters of medium-sized, double, well-rounded flowers in a vibrant yellow shade surrounded by pale yellow and lightly scented. This rose bush is perfect for use as ground cover, in small borders around a terrace or along pathways, and is even suitable for container gardening. This hardy bush rose has fresh green, very healthy foliage.

The flowers of the Rosa x polyantha 'Golden Border', which are gathered in terminal clusters, come from the polyantha rose, an old hybrid resulting from the Rosa multiflora and Rosa chinensis. This recent French variety was created by Meilland in 1993.

This small bush has a wide and compact bushy habit. It will reach an average height of 60 cm (24in) with a spread of 50 cm (20in) within a few years. The single flowers, about 4 cm (2in) in diameter, are double and delicately cup-shaped. They are produced abundantly and continuously from June to November as long as the soil remains moist. They are a very bright yellow with paler edges, turning pale yellow and white before fading. They bloom in large clusters, without interruption as long as there is no frost. This variety is moderately vigorous and a little sensitive to diseases. It has a glossy fresh green foliage, very healthy. Deciduous, it disappears in winter. Its stems are very thorny.

The 'Golden Border' rose bush adapts to all soils that are not too dry and all climates, making it suitable for many regions. It works wonders as a border, in a rockery or on a slope where it will cover the ground. It can also be planted in groups of 3 plants, arranged in a triangle, or as a standalone feature on a lawn. Plant it in mass plantings or combine it with white ground cover roses such as the 'Swany' or 'Opalia' rose to highlight a pathway or the borders of light or opulent shrub and perennial beds. For example, it can be paired with perennial geraniums with blue or purple flowers (Geranium 'Blue Cloud', 'Anne Folkard', 'Nimbus', 'Orion'), bellflowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), and more airy perennials such as catmints and Russian sage. It blends beautifully with ornamental grasses, providing a contrast to their light habit and dark clematis flowers. Its yellow to white flowers also complement darker foliage, even purple and light green or gold. Left to grow freely, it forms a stunning, undulating carpet that brings dynamism to any landscape. It can also be planted in a large container or decorative planter, alongside red pelargoniums, blue lobelias, and blue salvias.

Planting and care

Rose bushes prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day) but sheltered from the burning rays of midday and strong winds. Rose bushes appreciate loose, permeable and rich soils. They prefer a slightly acidic to neutral soil but will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well-worked, well-decompacted and enriched with leaf compost and well-decomposed compost. To plant your rose bush in a pot, work the soil to a depth of 25 cm (10in), crumble the soil well and place a bottom amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn in the planting hole. Position your plant, removed from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, fill in and water generously to remove any air pockets. In dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root growth. Also remember to provide your rose bush with special rose fertiliser that stimulates plant flowering. Continuous-flowering rose bushes will stop blooming in summer if the soil is too dry, though it doesnt't harm their health.
