Rosa x polyantha Nectar Garden Escimo - Shrub Rose

The 'Escimo' rose bush from the Nectar Garden collection is a brand new variety of shrub rose created by Kordes that will be appreciated for its natural charm, the elegance of its endless flowering in large white roses, and its exceptional natural resistance to diseases attested by the German ADR label. It is a small vigorous bush, with a harmonious habit, adorned with dark, shiny, and well-furnished foliage, which has its place in a romantic garden, with a natural stylet, or in a small hedge. Like all the Sans Contraintes roses, it is hardy, robust, easy to maintain, and is pruned like other shrubs in the garden.

The flowers of the Rosa x polyantha Escimo 'Kormifari', gathered in terminal clusters, come from the polyantha rose, an old hybrid derived from Rosa multiflora and Rosa chinensis. This variety, introduced in the 2000s by the rose grower Kordes, has won international competitions and obtained the ADR label in 2006, which rewards the most resistant varieties among other criteria. It is part of a series of roses named Nectar Garden dedicated to biodiversity, both decorative, very remontant, disease-resistant, and appreciated by pollinating insects.

This small bush shows a balanced and rather upright habit. It will reach about 90 cm (35in) in height and have a spread of 60 cm (24in) in a few years. The single flowers of 5-6 cm (2in), with 5 pure white petals and a satin texture, are abundantly and continuously produced from May-June to October if the soil remains moist. They open in cups, flat, on a small throat sheltering a beautiful heart of golden stamens. They bloom in large numbers, in clusters, as long as there is no frost. The petals fall naturally, without drying out, so the bush always presents a neat appearance. This variety is very disease-resistant and develops elegant foliage from spring, cut into rounded, shiny, deep green leaflets which perfectly highlights the white colour of the flowers. It falls in winter, revealing thorny stems.

The Nectar Garden 'Escimo' rose is an easy-going bush that adapts to all soils that are not too dry and all climates, which allows it to be welcomed in many regions. Generous, elegant, unpretentious, it easily integrates into the garden where it can be combined with many other plants, perennials or shrubs. Its lovely habit also allows it to be planted in a row to create a small hedge of 1 m (3ft) in height. There is no shortage of ideas for associations to highlight this Escimo rose: choose among shrubs of the same stature, with staggered or simultaneous flowering: dwarf abelias and buddleias, deutzias, red, pink or orange bush roses, shrubby St. John's wort, caryopteris.... Like all roses, it pairs perfectly with perennial geraniums, campanulas, and catmints.
