Description
The 'Anggun' or 'Meibokir' Rose is a creation by Meilland dedicated to the singer Anggun. It is part of the Perfumella range, which promises highly fragrant roses. It offers a rose close to perfection, with beautiful pure white petals. It exhales a powerful scent of peppermint, fresh and fragrant. It is also a vigorous and healthy plant that blooms in successive waves from spring to autumn on dark, shiny foliage that contrasts beautifully with the flowers.
The 'Anggun' var. Meibokir Rose is a modern shrub related to hybrid tea roses, launched in 2023 by the Meilland house. With a compact and upright habit, this vigorous shrub reaches a modest height of 50 to 60 cm (20 to 24in). It produces strong, thorny branches that bear abundant, shiny, dark green foliage, resistant to the main rose diseases under good growing conditions. This rose blooms almost continuously from May to October if care is taken to remove faded flowers and the soil does not dry out too much in July-August. Its beautifully cup-shaped flowers are composed of 40 slightly rolled petals. They are warm white with a slight apricot blush at the centre. They exhale an exceptional, fresh and persistent fragrance dominated by notes of peppermint. The flowers are produced singularly, borne at the end of long shoots from the current year or on 2-year-old stems.
This Anggun rose finds its place in a rose or perennial bed or planted in groups of 3 plants in a small garden. Its small size makes it a good subject in a pot on the terrace or balcony. Consider light perennials and annuals such as Cloud Cabbage, white paniculate phlox, or tall foxgloves to accompany it. Its white roses can be paired with many colours in the garden. Pink roses like 'Line Renaud' or 'Charlotte Rampling' can accompany it. Its combination with mauve roses is also delightful ('Blue Girl', 'Charles de Gaulle', 'Claude Brasseur'...). It can be enhanced by a boxwood or yew screen or, conversely, surrounded by a miniature hedge or a carefully organized maze, as in Italian or French gardens. Above all, it is a superbly fragrant, sumptuous cut flower.

Planting and care
Plant your 'Anggun' Rose bush in a sunny or lightly shaded location. Modern roses are tolerant but do not appreciate excessive limestone. They will adapt to any garden if the soil is well-worked, not too heavy, and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose bush, work the soil by crumbling it and place an amendment, such as blood, fish and bone, at the bottom of the planting hole. Water generously after planting to eliminate air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root establishment.
Pruning modern repeat-flowering roses is essential for flowering. It is done in three steps:
1. Maintenance pruning: regularly shorten the branches that have flowered during the season. Remove faded flowers along with their stem and 2 or 3 leaves to encourage a second flush of flowers.
2. Preparatory pruning in autumn: light pruning that anticipates the proper spring pruning. In regions with cold winters, it is not recommended to avoid weakening the bush.
3. Spring pruning: in February and March, when the buds have become shoots 2 to 3 cm (1in) long, prune the young strong branches by a quarter of their length.
Pruning always aims to open up the heart of the bush and remove dead wood, diseased branches, and weak shoots. The most vigorous branches, usually 3 to 6 well-positioned, should be kept to maintain a beautiful habit. Always prune at a slant, ½ cm or 1 cm (0in) above an outward-facing bud.
Roses are often stained or blemished at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and does not harm the development of the rose bush.
