Thanks to the individuals (for order preparation and shipping service), the rose bush I received appears healthy. Planted near the 'Soleil Couchant' variety, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root... or not?

Description

The Belle Romantica Rose is a hybrid that will charm lovers of old roses while possessing the qualities of modern roses. It seduces with its plump flowers that open in quarters, in a soft and warm ocher pink colour. This creation from Meilland also shows a very good resistance to diseases and a strong reblooming character. The sturdy and generous bush has won several competitions. Plenty of reasons to adopt it in a romantic flower bed or a small garden. Create beautiful bouquets with its pastel flowers that exhale a sweet fragrance of May Rose!

Belle Romantica® ('Meigapencey') is a modern bush rose with large flowers launched by Meilland in 2014. This beautiful variety won the Perfume Award in Orleans in 2014 as well as the Best Grand Flowers Rose Award and the Perfume Award in La Tacita in 2014. It is a small bushy and upright shrub that reaches about 80-90cm (32-35in) in height with a spread of 50-60cm (20-24in) at maturity. It has rapid growth. It produces strong, thorny and well-branched branches that bear elegant foliage, of a semi-matte green colour, with low susceptibility to diseases. From June to October, if faded flowers are removed, the plant produces very beautiful 11cm (4in) diameter flowers, semi-globular in shape, reminiscent of old-fashioned roses. They are composed of 65 petals and open to reveal a quartered heart. Their colour, pinkish on the periphery, is warmed by pale ochre in the centre. They are grouped in small bouquets of 2 to 5 units at the end of long shoots from the current year or emerging from 2-year-old stems. Their fragrance is of a fairly light intensity, more or less noticeable depending on the time of day and the climatic conditions.

Belle Romantica®, romantic and feminine, is a perfect rose for nostalgic flower beds and bouquets, or planted among low perennials such as violets, perennial geraniums, dwarf asters or aubrietas for example: they will hide its slightly bare base after a few years. With its modest size and dense habit, it is suitable for container gardening and is ideal for planting in groups of 3. It fits well in flower beds of low shrubs with summer or autumn flowering, or mixed with light annuals such as love-in-a-mist for example. In an Italian or French-style garden, it will be highlighted in front of a boxwood or yew screen or surrounded by a miniature hedge.

Planting and care

Plant your Belle Romantica rose bush in a sunny or lightly shaded location. Modern roses are tolerant, but do not appreciate excess limestone. They will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked, not too heavy, and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose bush, work the soil by crumbling it and add an amendment, such as dried blood or dehydrated horn, to the bottom of the planting hole. Water generously after planting to remove air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting.

Pruning modern perpetual roses is essential for flowering. It is done in three steps:

1. Maintenance pruning: regularly shorten the branches that have bloomed during the season. To promote the reblooming of perpetual roses, remove faded flowers along with their stems and 2 or 3 leaves.

2. Preparatory autumn pruning: light pruning that anticipates the proper spring pruning. It is not recommended in regions with cold winters to avoid weakening the bush.

3. Spring pruning: in February-March, when the buds have become shoots 2 to 3 m (1in) long, prune the young strong branches to a quarter of their length.

Pruning always aims to clear the core of the bush and remove dead wood, diseased branches, and weak shoots. The most vigorous branches, usually 3 to 6 well-positioned branches, should be retained to maintain a beautiful habit. Always prune at an angle ½cm or 1cm above a bud facing outward.

Roses are often stained or unsightly at the end of summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These stains are not harmful to the rose bush, it is a natural phenomenon.

Care

Pruning instructions Pruning modern perpetual roses is essential for flowering. It is done in three steps: 1. Maintenance pruning: regularly shorten the branches that have bloomed throughout the season. To encourage the reblooming of perpetual roses, remove faded flowers along with their stem, leaving 2 or 3 leaves. 2. Preparatory autumn pruning: light pruning that anticipates the real spring pruning. In regions with cold winters, it is not recommended to avoid weakening the bush. 3. Spring pruning: in February-March, when the buds have become shoots measuring 2 to 3cm (1in) long, trim the young strong branches by a quarter of their length. Pruning always aims to clear the heart of the bush and remove dead wood, diseased branches, and weak shoots. The most vigorous branches should be kept, usually 3 to 6 well-positioned branches to maintain an attractive habit. Always prune at a ½cm or 1cm angle above an outward-facing bud.
