Description

The Black Perfumella® 'Meizhoro' rose is an exceptional variety, created in 2019 by Meilland, distinguished by its unprecedentedly vigorous flowering, blending shades of red and dark violet, almost black. Its 11 cm diameter flowers add a rare touch of sophistication, while its powerful and fruity fragrance with tea rose notes captivates the senses. This vigorous, compact shrub rose is perfect for planting in beds, borders, or large containers.

The Black Perfumella® 'Meizhoro' rose belongs to the Rosaceae family and the Hybrid Tea and Large-Flowered Roses group. Hybrid Tea roses produce elegant, turbinate-shaped flowers, with spirally arranged petals that gradually open. Their often large and refined roses are borne on long stems ideal for cut flowers. The 'Meizhoro' stands out with its spectacular deep violet-red, almost black flowers evoking opulent velvet. Measuring 11 cm in diameter with around 70 petals and 1 to 3 flowers per stem, these double roses add a touch of mystery and elegance to any garden. Their intense fruity fragrance with a hint of floral tea rose perfectly complements their visual beauty. This rose features a vigorous, bushy habit, reaching between 80 and 100 cm in height and about 50 cm in spread. Its medium matt green foliage provides an ideal backdrop to highlight the dark brilliance of its flowers. The plant offers continuous flowering, displaying intense colour from spring until the first frosts. The young shoots of the Black Perfumella® are slightly tinged with red, while the stems are thorny.

The Black Perfumella® rose fits perfectly into sunny beds, borders, or large containers where its deep colour and delicate fragrance add a touch of understated elegance. It pairs harmoniously with sun-loving plants that will highlight its beauty. For example, the pure white 'Iceberg' rose will create a striking contrast with the dark hues of the Black Perfumella®. Alongside it, lavender or perennial sage will add texture while diffusing their Mediterranean fragrance. For a more original touch, orange daylilies will accentuate the deep red of its flowers while enhancing the visual appeal of the combination.

Planting and care

To plant your Black Parfumella rose, prepare the soil by digging a 25cm cube, breaking up the the earth well and adding a base fertiliser such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Place your plant after removing it from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3cm of soil, backfill and water thoroughly to eliminate any air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to encourage root development. Also remember to feed your rose with a special rose fertiliser to stimulate plant flowering. Choose a sunny spot, or partial shade in very hot regions.
