Six months after planting in spring and the two roses are growing very well. A very good start.

Description

The 'Blue Eden' Rose is a modern hybrid tea rose that will charm gently original and well-scented roses enthusiasts. On this bush, generous bouquets of double flowers bloom without excess, with a harmonious and lightweight size, whose uncommon colour ranges from purple-violet to bluish-lavender in warm weather. Opening on a lavender eye punctuated with yellow stamens, the corollas reveal a beautiful fragrance with citrus, lemon, and spice notes. The healthy and attractive dark green foliage embraces its very long flowering from June until the first frosts. A rose excellent in every aspect and the winner of the AARS in the USA in 2006!

'Blue Eden' or 'WEKisoblip' (synonym 'Wild Blue Yonder) is a modern bush rose with large grouped flowers related to floribundas and obtained in the USA by Tom Carruth in 2004. This beautiful dense bush with a bushy and upright habit reaches about 1.10 m (4ft) in height and 70 cm (28in) in width at maturity, with rapid growth. It produces intense, thorny, and well-branched branches, which bear elegant foliage, a beautiful dark green, resistant to diseases. In successive waves, if you remove faded flowers, the plant produces gorgeous, slightly flattened cup-shaped flowers, 8 cm (3in) in diameter, a little informal. They comprise about 30 undulated dark purple-violet petals on the face, more mauve on the reverse. The colour of the flowers is more intense in cool weather but more mauve-blue in warm weather. They are grouped in bouquets at the end of long shoots from the current year or emerging from 2-year-old stems. The flowering, recurrent, is distinguished by a pronounced and fruity fragrance.

Floribunda roses allow for beautiful small hedges planted mixed at the edge of the terrace or in small-sized shrub beds. Pair them with abelias, nandinas, or caryopteris. They are good companions for phlox paniculata, campanulas, nepetas, and tall gypsophiles. However, the unusual hue of the Blue Eden roses is easily planted with other varieties of pink, white, or even red to purple flowers. Its beautiful fragrance deserves a place near the house, isolated or planted in groups of 3 or a large pot on your patio or balcony. Its flowers make gorgeous, romantic, and scented bouquets.

Planting and care

Choose a sunny or lightly shaded spot with well-worked soil that is not too heavy and has enough nutrients. Avoid planting in poor and excessively dry soils. Prepare the soil by crumbling it and adding an amendment, such as blood, fish and bone, at the bottom of the planting hole. After planting, water abundantly to remove air pockets and continue to water regularly for a few weeks to help the roots establish.

Pruning modern repeat flowering roses is important for flowering and should be done in three stages:

1. Regular maintenance pruning: During the season, regularly shorten the flowering branches and remove faded flowers along with their stem, leaving 2 or 3 leaves to encourage repeat flowering.

2. Preparatory autumn pruning: Lightly prune in preparation for the 'main' spring pruning. Note: This is not recommended in regions with cold winters as this could weaken the bush.

3. Spring pruning: In February-March, when the buds have become shoots 2 to 3 cm (1in) long, prune the young, strong branches to one-quarter of their length.

When pruning, always aim to remove dead wood, diseased branches, and weak shoots while opening up the centre of the bush. Retain the most vigorous branches, generally 3 to 6 well-positioned, to maintain an attractive habit. Always prune at a slant ½ cm or 1 cm (0in) above an outward-facing bud.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
