Description

The 'Broceliande' Rose is a modern hybrid tea rose that doesn't go unnoticed in the garden, both because of its large double flowers with a variegated and striped colouration in different shades of pink, red, ivory, and pale yellow and for its strong fruity fragrance. This award-winning variety is easy to grow and highly resistant to diseases. It's an original plant with a long flowering period that will be the pride of your garden from summer to autumn. This well-born flower, which borrowed its name from the legendary Breton forest, is also well-shaped, with a beautifully turbinate form. A treasure for homemade bouquets!

'Broceliande' is a modern bush rose with large, highly fragrant flowers obtained by Adam in 1997, awarded in 2004 in the "noble flowered roses" category at the international competition for new roses in Lyon, also awarded in Paris, Orléans, Monza, and Geneva. This beautiful bushy shrub has a very erect habit, reaching approximately 1m (3ft) in height and 70cm (28in) in width at maturity, with rapid growth. It produces sturdy branches that carry elegant, healthy foliage with a glossy dark green colour, resistant to diseases. Throughout the summer, if faded flowers are removed, the plant continuously produces large, uniquely styled roses, measuring 8cm (3in) in diameter, opening into slightly globular cups. They are solitary, sometimes grouped in 2 or 3, borne at the end of long shoots from the current year or emerging from 2-year-old stems. The flowering, which repeats, is also distinguished by a fruity and strong fragrance.

This 'Broceliande' rose, with its original colour, delicious fragrance, and accommodating nature, is ideal in the background of a rose or light perennial bed or as a standalone feature in a small, well-maintained garden. It is also perfect for use in large monochrome and fragrant borders, as its rich colour can be difficult to match. For example, it can be combined with white or pink panicle phlox, red penstemons, fuchsia pink shrubby salvias, as well as the dark foliage of boxwoods, Distylium (x) Blue Cascade, or cotoneasters. Its cut flowers, with good longevity, are naturally perfect for bouquets.

Planting and care

Plant your 'Broceliande' Rose in a sunny or lightly shaded location. Modern roses are tolerant but do not appreciate excessive limestone. They will adapt to any garden if the soil is well-worked, not too heavy, and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose, work the soil well, crumble it, and place an amendment, such as blood, fish, and bone, at the bottom of the planting hole. Water generously after planting to eliminate air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root growth.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.

Care

Pruning instructions Pruning modern repeat flowering roses is important for flowering and should be done in three stages: 1. Regular maintenance pruning: During the season, regularly shorten the flowering branches and remove faded flowers along with their stem, leaving 2 or 3 leaves to encourage repeat flowering. 2. Preparatory autumn pruning: Lightly prune in preparation for the 'main' spring pruning. Note: This is not recommended in regions with cold winters as this could weaken the bush. 3. Spring pruning: In February-March, when the buds have become shoots 2 to 3 cm (1in) long, prune the young, strong branches to one-quarter of their length. When pruning, always aim to remove dead wood, diseased branches, and weak shoots while opening up the centre of the bush. Retain the most vigorous branches, generally 3 to 6 well-positioned, to maintain an attractive habit. Always prune at a slant ½ cm or 1 cm (0in) above an outward-facing bud.
Pruning Pruning recommended once a year
