Description
The 'Double Delight' Rose Bush forms a magnificent bush with an intense and spicy fragrance and unusual flowering. It is interesting in more than one way; on the one hand, for its double cup-shaped roses, beautifully bicoloured, strawberry red with a cream centre, and its beautiful olive green foliage with a glossy finish. This abundant and regular flowering occurs from June to October, provided the faded flowers are regularly removed, and the plant is fed, as it is powerful but voracious. Sumptuous as a free hedge, this large bush can also be trained to climb as its vigour allows it!
The 'Double Delight' Rose, registered by American rosarian Herbert C. Swim in 1977, specialises in varieties resistant to heat, whose colours do not fade in the sun, whose foliage can withstand high temperatures, and roses that fade with elegance. Double Delight is a modern hybrid belonging to the large-flowered roses, rewarded in Germany in 1976 and the USA in 1977. It forms a beautiful bush with a slightly upright bushy habit, vigorous and fast-growing, with red thorny stems and deciduous olive green foliage tinged with red when opening. It will measure about 1m (3ft) 30cm (12in) in height and 80cm (32in) in width. When trained to climb, it can reach a height of 2m (7ft) and 50cm (20in, from mid-June until late in the season, its exceptionally bright roses bloom with double cup-shaped flowers, somewhat rounded, 10 to 12cm (4 to 5in) wide, carried by long sturdy stems. Their enchanting fragrance is exceptional: spicy notes are added to a lychee aroma.
This modern 'Double Delight' rose may not be the easiest to cultivate, as it requires well-fertilised soil, heat, and water to support its flowering. It may not be the first one to plant when you are a novice gardener, but it captivates with its exceptional fragrance and brilliant flowering. In a bouquet, it will perfume the house, opening the doors to a world of scents with tropical accents. It will find its place in the garden in a large bed of delicate flowering shrubs (Abelia, Eleagnus, wild rose flowers) that will not overshadow its beauty or as a solitary plant in a well-maintained small garden. It adapts to all soils that are not too chalky and all climates, which allows it to be planted anywhere, even at medium altitudes. It combines perfectly with pretty plants that are easy to cultivate, such as perennial geraniums, campanulate flowers, or foxgloves.

Planting and care
When planting a rose in a pot, loosen the soil to a depth of 25 cm (10 inches) and make sure it is crumbly. Add a base amendment such as blood, fish, and bone at the bottom of the planting hole. Take the plant out of its pot and place it in the hole, making sure to cover the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1 inch) of soil. Fill in the hole and water generously to eliminate any air pockets. During dry weather, water the rose regularly for a few weeks to promote root growth. Additionally, use special rose fertilisers to encourage flowering. For 'Double Delight', ensure that it receives adequate nutrition, water, and warmth to fulfil its promises.
Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, etc.)
It will vary according to where you live:- In zones 9 to 10 (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), flowering will occur about 2 to 4 weeks earlier.
- In zones 6 to 7 (Germany, Poland, Slovenia, and lower mountainous regions), flowering will be delayed by 2 to 3 weeks.
- In zone 5 (Central Europe, Scandinavia), blooming will be delayed by 3 to 5 weeks.
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
The planting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands).
It will vary according to where you live:
- In Mediterranean zones (Marseille, Madrid, Milan, etc.), autumn and winter are the best planting periods.
- In continental zones (Strasbourg, Munich, Vienna, etc.), delay planting by 2 to 3 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 2 to 4 weeks in autumn.
- In mountainous regions (the Alps, Pyrenees, Carpathians, etc.), it is best to plant in late spring (May-June) or late summer (August-September).
The harvesting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions in USDA zone 8 (France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...) fruit and vegetable harvests are likely to be delayed by 3-4 weeks.
In warmer areas (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), harvesting will probably take place earlier, depending on weather conditions.
The sowing periods indicated on our website apply to countries and regions within USDA Zone 8 (France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...), delay any outdoor sowing by 3-4 weeks, or sow under glass.
In warmer climes (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), bring outdoor sowing forward by a few weeks.
