Thanks to Adeline (order preparation) & Hélène (shipping service), the received rose bush is healthy. Planted near the 'Kaffe Fassett' variety, I'm waiting to see if it will take root... or not? Note: received without a variety label (which is essential to identify the rose bush in all seasons).

More information

This variety produces clusters of double flowers, 6 cm (2in) in diameter, ranging from bright pink to soft pink, highly fragrant, with petals that reveal a sweet and fruity raspberry flavour. Harvested before the flower wilts, they are perfect for confectionery, fruit salads, jellies, or refreshing drinks. The bush is well-ramified, disease-resistant, and blooms in successive waves from June to October. Perfect in borders or pots, it also provides beautiful flowers for bouquets.

Description

The 'Renée Van Wegberg' bush rose offers sweet and cheerful, double and highly fragrant roses with large tasty petals. Their beauty, fragrance, and colour evolve from bright pink to soft mauve, bringing a charming touch that changes everything, whether in a mass planting, pots, or bouquets. The petals of its flowers, which have a fruity flavour reminiscent of raspberries, are perfect for making candies, jams, and other treats.

This English-style bush rose is a recent creation from Pheno Geno Roses, a specialist in creating flavourful roses. Because it is often overlooked, the rose is also the queen of edible flowers. Each variety has been carefully selected and tested for the best flavour and texture. Floriferous and suitable for organic cultivation, these roses provide an abundance of delicious and delicate flowers to use and enjoy in the garden, on the balcony, and in the kitchen.

'Renée Van Wegberg' will form a small bushy and upright bush measuring 70 cm (28in) in height and 40 cm (16in) in width on average. Its growth is fast, and its thorny stems are covered with abundant dark green foliage resistant to diseases under proper growing conditions. The deciduous foliage falls in autumn. The flowers bloom in successive waves on this repeat-flowering bush between June and October. They are medium-sized (6 cm (2in)), double, and comprise more than 93 large petals. Each flower opens with a bright pink colour but fades to mauve over time. The flowering of this rose takes the form of panicles, which are bouquets with several flowers. Their fragrance is present, with a fruity and sweet character, and will be more noticeable in calm and warm weather.

The 'Renée Van Wegberg' rose blends well in a small mass planting alongside blue, white, or purple flowers. Pair it with annual delphiniums, perennial flax, lavender, or white foxgloves. It will also add a romantic touch to perennial borders and large beds. Roses go perfectly with catmints, lavenders, bellflowers, paniculate baby's breath, and herbaceous or climbing clematis. You can also plant it in front of taller shrubs or roses or use it to fill the base of a small tree, adding charm to it.

In the kitchen:

Harvest the petals of fully bloomed but not faded flowers (they quickly lose their aroma), preferably in the morning. Only consume flowers from untreated plants. You can use them in confectionery, to flavour jellies, jams, and fruit salads, to prepare syrup, or to add flavour to beverages.

Planting and care

To plant your 'Renée Van Wegberg' Rose, choose a sunny or lightly shaded location with well-worked and sufficiently rich soil. Avoid excessive limestone or acidity. Prepare the soil by crumbling it and adding an amendment, like blood, fish and bone at the bottom of the planting hole. After planting, water generously to remove any air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root development.

Pruning is vital for the flowering of perpetual roses. At the end of winter, shorten the branches to 3-5 buds above the ground (at the lowest point) and choose an outward-facing bud for a more elegant habit. Take advantage of this pruning to remove dead wood and unsightly branches. Prune at an angle above a bud. Remove faded blooms as they appear to stimulate the development of other buds.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
