Description

Rosa Cremosa is an irresistible variety, with a colour and robust health that cannot be ignored. It is a small bush with a generous habit, flowering in successive waves from early summer until the first frost. Its small roses are absolutely charming, in a pastel gradient of apricot-pink and cream, gathered in frothy clusters. They are perfectly enhanced by beautiful glossy dark green foliage that remains attractive throughout the season. This charming and carefree rose is perfect for the garden or balcony.

Rosa Cremosa was introduced by German rose breeder Kordes in 2018. It received the German ADR label in 2009, one of the most demanding labels in the world. Varieties are evaluated under real conditions, without any sanitary treatment for three years and in various growing conditions. The roses are judged on their beauty, flowering, fragrance, colour, growth, habit, hardiness, disease resistance, and fungal disease resistance. To date, only 183 tested varieties have received this label.

Rosa Cremosa quickly forms a bushy and spreading shrub, reaching a height of 70 to 80cm (28 to 32in) with a width of 40cm (16in), and has a repeat-flowering habit. It is a floribunda type variety, with flowers that open in clusters. They are fully double, 6cm (2in) wide, and slightly resemble pompoms. The petals are somewhat toothed and turned outward. Their colour is indefinable, constantly oscillating between orange and pastel salmon-pink before turning cream. The centre of the flower is a deeper shade than the periphery, creating a delightful gradient. The flowering is abundant in June, then it repeats with slightly less generosity several times until October if the soil remains moist. The branches bear glossy foliage from spring. It is dark red when young and turns dark green. Its disease resistance is excellent. The deciduous leaves fall in autumn.

With its exquisite flowering, Rosa Cremosa deserves an equally graceful setting near the house. Light-flowering perennial plants (autumn asters, foxgloves, tall sedums) and grasses are ideal for enhancing its beauty and accompanying it late in the season. Combine it with perennial geraniums with blue flowers, lavender, campanulas, and catmints. Planted in groups of 3 to 5 on a carpet of snow-in-summer (Cerastium tomentosum), it will create a delightful flower bed that requires very little maintenance. It will look wonderful in a large pot on a patio or balcony. Its flowers make beautiful romantic bouquets, in the company of peonies and white lilacs.

Planting and care

Work the soil to a depth of 40 cubic centimetres by crumbling the soil and placing a base amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your young plant, covering the graft point with 3cm (1in) of soil. Fill in and water generously to remove air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root development. Provide your rose with special rose fertiliser that stimulates flowering.

Roses are often stained or unsightly at the end of summer, but this will not hinder their development. These spots are a natural phenomenon and will not harm the rose.
