A landscape rose as robust as it is charming, displaying a very "natural" style. This excellent variety offers very good resistance to diseases and a perpetual, gently honey-scented fragrant flowering. Its small single flowers, bright pink with a white base around a yellow heart, are gathered in long paniculate clusters that will bear decorative fruits in late summer. It is an almost maintenance-free rose, accepting any well-prepared soil, and not requiring much water.

Description

The Bicolore Rose is, like its siblings from the Rosanatura series, equipped with the same qualities as the Decorosiers in terms of floribundity, disease resistance, and drought tolerance. In addition to these qualities, it also has a fragrance and a natural, bohemian style that is perfectly in line with the current trend. It is a floriferous bush that is adorned for months with small bicoloured wild roses with yellow hearts, gathered in generous panicles. Their subtle fragrance attracts pollinators throughout the summer, and the small fruits that follow them bring life to the garden until winter. Easy, generous, and undemanding, this landscape rose gives a lot without requiring much maintenance. Simple and charming, it blends easily with other flowers and will find its place in any garden.

The Rosanatura 'Bicolore' rose is part of a new generation of landscape roses, with a more wild appearance, developed, edited, and distributed by the company Verdia in partnership with Globe Planter. The varieties that make up this collection are all grown in France. They are fragrant, floriferous, repeat-flowering, highly disease-resistant, and water-efficient.

This Rosanatura 'Bicolore' rose belongs to the modern, bushy, and landscape roses category. Its small, fragrant flowers grouped in long panicles may come from Rosa multiflora, known for its exceptional robustness. The plant forms an upright bush, slightly taller than wide, about 1.20 m (4ft) in height and 1 m (3ft) in width, depending on the growing conditions. Very floriferous, it continuously produces an abundance of single flowers, 3-4 cm (1-2in) in diameter, with 5 petals, white at the base and ranging from fuchsia pink to light pink at the edges. They emit a sweet, light fragrance and are gathered in long inflorescences. After pollination, small round fruits form and ripen to a reddish colour. Its foliage, very healthy, consists of small, glossy, dark green leaves that cover thorny stems. This hardy variety adapts to any well-prepared soil.

The Rosanatura 'Bicolore' rose can be used in containers, flower beds, large spaces, slopes, or low hedges. It adapts to all soils that are not too wet and all climates, making it suitable for all parts of Europe. Its bushy habit works wonders in low shrub borders, combined with other Rosanatura or Decorosier varieties such as 'Vesuvia', 'Isalia', or 'Emera'. When planted en masse, it can border pathways and highlight flower beds. For example, it can be paired with perennial geraniums (Geranium 'Blue Cloud', 'Anne Folkard', 'Nimbus', 'Orion'), bellflowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, lavenders, snapdragons, foxgloves, or Stachys varieties. When left to grow freely, it forms a natural-looking bush, perfect for adding a touch of bucolic charm to a terrace.

Planting and care

Rosanatura roses prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day) but sheltered from strong winds. They are water-efficient, tolerate heat fairly well, and adapt to most soils. A soil that is too dry in summer will dry out the flowering, but the plant itself withstands water shortage once well rooted. All roses appreciate loose, permeable, deep, and humus-rich soils. They prefer slightly acidic soil, but will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked and sufficiently rich.

To plant your rose in a pot, work the soil to a depth of 25 cm (10in), crumbling the soil well and placing a base amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your plant, removing it from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, fill in and water generously to remove air pockets. In dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting. Also, remember to provide your rose with special rose fertiliser that stimulates plant flowering.

Pruning: it is not essential, but you can intervene at the end of winter to clean up old wood and shorten certain branches to 2/3 of their development.
