Thank you to the individuals (for order preparation and shipping), the bare-root rose received appears healthy to me. Planted near the 'Girandola' variety, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root... (or not?)

More information

A bush rose in technicolouir, which will delight fans of warm tones. Its 7 cm (3in) roses, reminiscent of peonies, range from yellow to orange, passing through salmon and fuchsia. They bloom in small, lightly scented bouquets on a matte foliage of dark green that perfectly enhances them. Its growth is vigorous and disease resistant. Superb in a mass planting, in groups, as a low hedge, in a large border, but also in a pot. It flowers from June to October.

Description

The 'Don Pacello' Clustered Flower Rose, dedicated to one of the first Renaissance landscapers, is a vigorous bush that blooms with beautiful generosity in a rich palette of warm tones, from late spring to the first frosts. Its very double cup-shaped flowers, lightly scented, open in bouquets on foliage that starts off coppery and then turns dark green, remaining decorative throughout the season. With a relatively rare colour, it is also a versatile variety that can be used in various ways, both in the garden and in pots. Definitely worth discovering!

The 'Don Pacello' 'Pandocell' Rose is a very recent creation obtained by Bernard Panozzo (France) and introduced in 2019 by La Star de Doué. In just a few years, it forms a tall, upright bush with thorny stems, reaching about 1.20m (4ft) in height and 60cm (24in) in width. Its young shoots display lovely copper to bronze shades. It has finely cut foliage with a matte dark green colour, highly resistant to diseases. This deciduous foliage falls in autumn. The flowering occurs from May-June until October-November, almost continuously if faded flowers are removed and the soil does not dry out too much in summer. The 7cm (3in) wide roses are very double, tightly packed in small clusters. The flowers, bright orange when they open, gradually turn salmon, yellow, with the outer petals tinged with fuchsia pink. The flowering of this rose is only lightly scented.

The floribunda roses allow for the creation of beautiful small hedges, planted mixed along the edge of the terrace or in small shrub beds. Combine them with ground cover roses, abelias, nandinas, or caryopteris for example. They are good companions for foxgloves and tall baby's breath. The vigour, generosity, and resistance of 'Don Pacello' make it an interesting variety for all gardens, even small ones and for container gardening. Its uses are varied, according to the desires of each gardener: in a rose bed, in the company of white varieties ('Marie Pavie', 'Swanny') or mauve varieties ('Blue Boy', 'Rhapsody in Blue'). Like all roses, it looks stunning mixed with easy-care perennials such as hardy geraniums, catmints, or asters. And its roses are beautiful in small bouquets or centerpieces, paired with blue or white clematis flowers for example.

Don Pacello was nicknamed the Leonardo da Vinci of gardens. This landscaper is responsible for the first French Renaissance gardens, those that surround the royal castle of Amboise, Château-Gaillard, the castle of Blois, and the castle of Gaillon.

Planting and care

Plant this floribunda rose from November to March, in ordinary, well-loosened and free-draining soil. Roses prefer clayey soils, rather heavy than light. In soil that is too sandy, too compact or too dry in summer, it is preferable to bury compost, decomposed manure or leaf-mould at the bottom of the planting hole. However, this rose dreads waterlogged soils in winter. Place it in a sunny position, at most in partial shade. Roses are greedy plants, a specific rose fertiliser application will be beneficial when the foliage emerges, then regularly during the entire flowering period.

To encourage re-blooming, regularly remove faded flowers. Floribunda rose varieties are more vigorous and floriferous than large-flowered rose varieties. Therefore, the stems should be pruned to about a quarter of their length (4 to 6 buds from the base of the stem) at the end of winter. Always prune above an outward-facing bud, so that the bush thickens and the branches do not become tangled in the centre of the shrub.
