Rosa Heidi Klum - Stem Standard Rose

The 'Heidi Klum' Standard Rose resembles a small tree with a rounded and dense crown covered in flowers from May to October. This extremely fragrant variety offers double roses of medium size in the shape of a cup, reminiscent of those of tea hybrids, ranging in colour from purple to deep pink. An outstanding ornamental subject deserves a prime location, such as in the centre of a bed, isolated on a lawn, or in a large container on the terrace. 

Standard roses are created by grafting a variety, such as Heidi Klum, onto a single and upright stem that belongs to a different rose, such as Rosa canina, R. laxa or R. multiflora. The graft is done at a height of 50-60 cm (20-24in) from the ground. In regions with very cold winters, it may be helpful to protect the rootstock.

The flowers of the 'Heidi Klum' Miniature Rose, grouped in clusters of 3 to 5 units, come from the floribunda rose, an old hybrid resulting from Rosa multiflora and Rosa chinensis. Grafted onto a stem, it displays a characteristic habit and will reach a height of about 1.30 m (4ft) in a few years with a spread of 50-60 cm (20-24in). The 8 to 10 cm (3 to 4in) in diameter flowers, in the form of double cups, bloom in successive waves from June to October if the soil remains slightly moist. In very hot weather, flowering is halted. Their colour changes from deep purple to crimson pink and then to lilac with a silvery sheen at full bloom. The petals contain a beautiful rose fragrance with hints of cinnamon and apricot. This variety has foliage divided into leaflets of a shiny medium green, deciduous in winter, and disease-resistant under good growing conditions. Its heavily branched stems bear thorns.

The 'Heidi Klum Standard Rose is best planted in a prominent position, in the centre of a bed, among low-growing perennials or shrubs, along a path, near a terrace, or in a large pot on a balcony. It can also be planted in groups of 3 plants, arranged in a triangle, or isolated on a lawn. It pairs well with perennial geraniums (Geranium Blue Cloud, Anne Folkard, Nimbus, Orion), bellflowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, snapdragons or foxgloves. Standard roses are perfect for adding volume to bush roses or ground cover beds.
