Lovely camellia, received along with another one, quickly and well packaged. It is 55cm tall, so within the range given on the website (40-60cm). The plant is beautiful, its flowers even more so.

Description

Camellia 'Jury's Yellow' is a compact bush with an upright habit. This bush produces white flowers spotted with pale yellow in the center.

This variety blooms from February to April. It forms a bush of 1.30m (3.3 ft) in height and 70cm (27.6 in) in width. It produces curious semi-double flowers 6 cm to 7 cm (2.4 in to 2.8 in) in diameter, which are cream white with a pale-yellow heart made of crumpled petals and bordered with cream.

The round leaves of the camellia are dark green, measuring 5 to 8 cm (2 in to 3.1 in) in length, and are evergreen. Hardy down to -14° C (6.8° F), this variety grows in partial shade, sheltered from cold winds. It prefers acidic, humus-rich, moist, and light soil.

Plant Camellia 'Jury's Yellow' alongside azaleas, skimmia, Pieris, and heathers. Its cream flowers go perfectly with Japanese Quince 'Kinshiden', adorned on the ground with a carpet of green-white tulips, such as the Lily Flowered Tulip 'Greenstar' or the Viridiflora Tulip 'Spring Green'.

Its compact size also allows for pot cultivation, so place it on a semi-shaded terrace, along a wall, protected from cold and drying winds.

Planting and care

Camellia 'Jury's Yellow' can be placed in a fairly shady spot sheltered from cold and drying winds. Nevertheless, you can grow it in full sun but the roots must remain cool. Plant it in a fresh, humus-bearing, acidic and well-drained soil. The bush should not be planted too deeply, the top of the root ball should be covered with 3 cm (1.2 in) of soil. In winter, cover it with a 5 cm to 7 cm (2 in to 2.8 in) thick mulch composed of leaf compost and crushed bark. Beware of late frosts that can damage the flowers and buds. During dry periods, water the bush to prevent the drop of flower buds.
