Euonymus fortunei ‘Emerald ’n’ Gold’ should be planted from September to November or from March to May, avoiding periods of frost and drought. To create a continuous groundcover, space the young plants 60 to 80 cm apart. Sun intensifies the golden colouring of the foliage, but partial shade is preferable in hot areas. Shade is tolerated, but the variegation will be less bright. Plant it in an ordinary, well-drained soil that remains slightly moist, whether acid, neutral or alkaline. It tolerates clay soils if they are not waterlogged and, once well established, withstands moderate drought. Water regularly during the first two summers. Scale insects and powdery mildew may occasionally affect it.
