The tillers, settled in a sandy soil lightened in a sunny location, have established themselves well. We will see how they withstand hot and dry summers...

Description

Euonymus japonicus 'Microphyllus' is a dense Japanese spindle tree, bearing small dark green leaves resembling those of boxwood. It is ideal for low hedges and topiary forms.

This 1m (3ft) tall shrub has a bushy and dense habit. It has a slow growth rate. Its dark green evergreen leaves are opposite, ovate, simple, and dentate, measuring 2cm (1in) long. In spring, an insignificant flowering of small white flowers gives way in autumn to pink berries containing an orange seed. This seed is toxic when ingested.

Euonymus japonicus 'Microphyllus' is hardy down to -12°C (10.4°F).  It is easy to grow. It thrives in well-drained soil with moderate acidity and without excessive limestone, in a sunny location sheltered from cold winds. Pruning is unnecessary; it is better to pinch the young plants to encourage branching and only remove dead or diseased wood.

Euonymus japonicus 'Microphyllus' can be used in a shrub bed by playing on contrasts with bronze fennels, barberries or even dwarf roses.

Advice: in case of drought, water to maintain its beautiful foliage.
