Euonymus japonicus ‘Microphyllus’ is planted from September to November or from March to May, outside periods of frost and drought. In a Mediterranean climate, planting in September or October, when the rains return, encourages root establishment. It grows in full sun or partial shade, in an ordinary, acidic, neutral or alkaline, well-drained soil. It tolerates clay soils provided that water does not stagnate in winter. Regular watering is necessary during the first two years and for plants grown in pots; once well established, the shrub tolerates moderate dry spells. An application of compost in spring is beneficial in poor soil. Left to grow freely, it requires no special pruning.
Scale insects may appear on plants grown in a warm, poorly ventilated spot.
