Description

Hibiscus syriacus Pinky Spot, also known as althaea, Tree Mallow, or Garden Hibiscus, has semi-double, ruffled petals in pale pink with a carmine heart. Its compact habit and slow growth are sought-after qualities for small gardens and container cultivation.

An ornamental bush, this pink Althaea has an upright habit and late summer flowering. From July to September, this very floriferous bush produces large solitary or paired flowers. These open trumpet-shaped flowers are semi-double and are pale pink with a carmine heart. These large flowers measure 6-8 cm (2.4-3.1 in) in diameter and have white stamens.

The foliage of the hibiscus is deciduous. The leaves are dark green and turn yellow in autumn. Hibiscus Pinky Spot is a vigorous variety. It is also very hardy. At maturity, it can reach a height of 1.5 to 2.5 m (4 ft 11 in to 8 ft 2 in).

This hibiscus can be grown as a solitary specimen or in groups. It can be found in rockeries, as a free-standing hedge with shrubs that flower at different times to extend the hedge's flowering period, or in borders with tall perennials or grasses.
