My hydrangea is no longer blooming .... It has been planted, trained against a wall of the house for twenty years. For a few years now, I only have foliage. What a shame! It is a magnificent plant. What can I do to make it bloom again? THANK YOU.

Description

Hydrangea seemanii is a unique hydrangea. It has a climbing habit and can reach up to 4 m (13.1 ft) in height. It is also evergreen, thus remaining decorative even in winter months with its tough green foliage.

It clings to a wall on its own thanks to its climbing roots.

With a fairly fast growth rate for a climbing hydrangea, it is hardy (-10° C (14°  F)) and perfect for covering an east or north-facing wall. Its superb flowers are presented in umbels, about 15 cm in diameter, and are cream-white in colour. It will even bloom in a north-facing orientation.

Planting and care

Plant in a shady or semi-shady position, in deeply worked soil. A good base fertiliser (horn or dehydrated blood) will promote the establishment of your plant and nourish it without risk of burning. If your soil tends to be dry, mix our water retainer, stockosorb, with the soil when filling the planting hole and provide a surface watering basin. Water regularly in the weeks following planting. Ensure that the soil remains moist, even in summer. It is sensitive to drought and will not tolerate lack of watering. In case of significant and prolonged frost, with sunlight during the day, we advise you to water the foliage of your plant to hydrate it. Easy to grow, it does not need to be pruned but can withstand shaping pruning.
