Taking it from the nursery, it is magnificent and of a very beautiful size. Numerous buds indicate that a beautiful blooming should take place in the spring.

Description

Magnolia stellata 'Rosea' is a small, deciduous bush. In early spring, it produces a mass of light pink, star-shaped, subtly fragrant flowers.

This 2 m (6.6 ft) tall star magnolia has a rounded, compact habit but is less branched than the species. From March to April, silky pink buds appear on the bare wood, which open up into star-shaped flowers. The flowers range from pale pink to white. The stamens are light yellow. Afterwards, it develops large deciduous, alternate, simple, ovate leaves, which are a medium green with a paler underside. In autumn, the foliage turns golden.

Originally from Japan, Magnolia stellata 'Rosea' can withstand temperatures as low as -25° C (-13° F), in moist, rich, well-drained, slightly acidic soil in a sunny or partially shaded position, and sheltered from prevailing winds. In summer, keep the soil moist by mulching with wood bark.

Due to its small size, Magnolia stellata 'Rosea' is ideal in a pot on a terrace where you can enjoy its pleasant fragrance.

Tip: The year following planting, spread slug pellets at the base as spring attacks are dangerous for young plants.

Planting and care

Magnolia stellata 'Rosea' should be planted in spring in well-drained, rich, moist, or even wet soil in summer. It prefers a soil with pH6. It prefers a sunny or semi-shaded location, sheltered from prevailing winds. Be careful not to break the fleshy roots and not to bury the root ball too deeply. Mulch and water in summer. The year following planting, spread anti-slug pellets at the base because spring attacks are dangerous for young plants. Beware of heavy frosts and hot, dry summers. Maintain good humidity by showering the foliage with a fine spray only in the evening. Pruning is unnecessary.
