Description

The 'Dream Touch' late double Tulip is a dazzling variety. Its large, double and velvety flowers open like peonies and change colour over time. They bloom in a purple-violet shade enriched with a burgundy glow and gradually turn to an ancient mauve, with each petal finely edged in white. It blooms late, in May, on top of sturdy stems that withstand bad weather. Luxurious and elegant, this simply stunning flower is a charming asset for borders, edges, and flowering pots.

The 'Dream Touch' Tulip belongs to the Lily family. Originally horticultural, it is currently classified in the group of 'Late Double Tulips', as well as in the section of Peony Flowered Tulips, which are characterised by double and crinkled flowers with generous shapes. 'Dream Touch' is of medium size, 40-45cm (16-18in), and its flower is of a beautiful size, up to 10cm (4in) wide, initially globular then very open, double, regular, and very well arranged. Its color, a refined combination of quite intense purple and fine white edges, is both very harmonious and well contrasted. The flowering takes place in mid-May, at the end of the tulip season. Each very strong stem carries a single flower that holds up well both in borders and in vases. It is also a robust plant with very good hardiness. The foliage is composed of large lanceolate leaves, a slightly greyish bluish green colour with a pruinose appearance.

The late double Tulip 'Dream Touch' is planted in groups, in large borders, and paired with other tulips in complementary colours such as 'Lady Charme' or 'Apricot Angelique', soft orange-yellow or on the contrary in the same range: pink tulips ('Angélique', 'Pink Star'), mauve ('Blue Diamond', 'Blue Spectacle'), and white ('Mount Tacoma'). Mixing varieties with staggered flowering times maximises the interest of the borders. This 'Dream Touch' tulip can also be planted in edges, rockeries, flower beds as well as in pots and planters. It beautifies balconies and terraces very well and produces lovely cut flowers, for example, when paired with 'Belle Epoque' tulips. It also perfectly complements large perennials.

Planting and care

Place the 'Dream Touch' tulips in a sunny or partially shaded spot from late September to December for spring flowering. Plant the bulbs in a light and well-drained soil, loosened to a depth of 15 cm (6in). Space the bulbs 10 cm (4in) apart without allowing them to touch to create a mass effect that will give a more decorative appearance. The care required is very easy. Simply water regularly, especially during dry winters, and cut the flower stems after flowering. Allow the leaves to completely dry before cutting them.
