Satisfied with the quality of these bulbs, but we will have to wait until spring to make a more definitive judgment...

Description

The 'Orange Angelique' Tulip is the orange version of the most famous double variety, the delightful pink 'Angelique' tulip. Its peony-like flower charms with its changing colour and warm shades, from straw yellow to peach and apricot pink, lightly touched with green and silver-white, creating a delightful harmony of colours reminiscent of a sunset at the end of flowering. Its late flowering, in May-June, is fabulous in the garden as well as in bouquets, beautifully closing the tulip season.

The 'Orange Angelique' Tulip, a sport of the 'Angelique' variety, belongs to the lily family. Of horticultural origin, obtained in the Netherlands, it is currently classified in the group of 'Late Double Tulips', whose main characteristic is to have very double and crinkled flowers, long-lasting, carried by sturdy stems. 'Orange Angelique' is of medium size (40-45cm (16-18in)) and its flower is of beautiful size, very double and well opened. It shows excellent holding. Its palette of colours, which evolves over the days, includes apricot, peach, cream yellow, salmon orange, complemented by white-pink and cream notes with a hint of pale green. The fragrance, light, adds an additional charm, and it is a real favourite, especially when its buds slowly open in a vase, gradually shedding their petals like a rain of pearly petals. The flowering starts relatively late, in May, at a time when other tulips have long faded.

Varied colours, tender or vibrant, opulent and naive flowers, late double tulips bring fancy and romance in pots or in sunny gardens, alongside the prettiest spring blooms or pastel tulips like 'Angelique', 'Creme Up Star' and 'Maureen Double' or, on the contrary, dark ones like 'Queen of Night'. Don't forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your flower beds, as these parameters vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for bouquets, as they last a long time in a vase, and that's where the fragrant flowers of 'Orange Angelique' will bring the greatest satisfaction.

Planting and care

How to plant my tulips? Plant your tulips as soon as possible in a well-drained soil. Loosen the soil deeply. Plant at a depth of 15cm (6in) (Bulbs should be covered with twice their height of soil). Space the bulbs a few cm apart, making sure they do not touch. Choose a sunny location for better flowering. After flowering, cut the flower stems and let the leaves dry completely before cutting them. After flowering, their foliage becomes unsightly. We recommend planting Heuchera, Foamflower, Brunnera, Bleeding Heart, Cypress Spurge in the foreground of your flower beds. Their foliage will enhance the colours of your tulips and during the season, they will elegantly hide their yellowed leaves.
