Tulipa Mix

This mix of late single Tulips brings colour to the garden and makes beautiful bouquets at the end of the tulip season. The bulbs produce large flowers in various vibrant or pastel colours, solid or bicoloured, at the end of long stems. Plant them in the garden in clusters with light flowers for a stunning mass effect.

The late single Tulip belongs to the old hybrid Darwin varieties. Originally horticultural, it is currently classified in Division 5, which is characterised by late flowering. Among the tallest, it reaches 60 cm (24in) in height when in bloom. Perched on sturdy stems well above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the large flowers are elegant, silky, and perfectly formed. Flowering occurs from May to June depending on the variety and climate, making it useful in the garden as a transition between early blooms and the first summer flowers. The basal foliage emerges from the ground in spring. It consists of 2 to 3 broadly lanceolate leaves with a glaucous green colour. This foliage yellows and dries up some time after flowering, when the bulb enters its dormant period.

The late single Tulip mix is suitable for large well-drained flowerbeds, along with plants with interesting foliage (grasses, fennel, alchemilla, Miscanthus sinensis var. condensatus Cosmopolitan), and perennials such as peonies or pastel-coloured wallflowers. They also help extend the flowering period of flowerbeds. They can be planted in borders, rockeries, flower beds, and even in pots and containers. Consider them for your balconies and terraces. They are ideal for creating elegant bouquets, but use very little water in their vase, just a small amount is enough. Furthermore, if your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase every day.
